25 Warm & Cozy Ginger Recipes

Ginger's main claim to fame might be its adorable namesake cookies—and don't get us wrong, they're delicious. But this versatile spice makes an appearance in plenty of other recipes, many of which fit nicely into any healthy eating plan.
Derived from a flowering plant found in China, ginger has been linked to a bevy of health benefits. It contains compounds and metabolites that have been used to help improve digestion, curb nausea, alleviate cold and flu symptoms, reduce muscle pain, fight inflammation and boost cardiovascular health. Plus, 100 grams of fresh ginger is chock-full of vitamins and minerals, contains no sugar and is low in calories.
When cooking with ginger, you can use a fresh ginger root that is peeled and grated or sliced, or purchase it in dried or ground form. Ground ginger is sold at the supermarket along with other herbs and spices.

Ginger is one of my absolute fav flavors. Gonna look at *several* of these recipes. 2 tips: can freeze ginger, then cut it off as you need. Also can rub off skin with the back of a spoon. Have also read that some eat the skin—in certain situations with no effects on flavor/texture. For times when I don't feel like cooking, I shop at Trader Joe's which I've found has the most ginger products: from gingery ice cream, triple ginger snaps to dried, sugared ginger (delicious!) and more. Most of these recipes look good except for the white chocolate cookie one which has too much sugar in to be healthy. As far as the nutritional information goes you can always plug all the ingredients into the Spark Calculator and figure it out that way. It is what I do all the time with recipes I have. Report

I grew up w/ Vernors & have har ginger snaps & more recently pickled ginger w/ sushi. So hassle to peel but will try again. I like it but don't know how to use it up since I don't cook at home much. Prefer the fresh for flavor tho.

I hate to be a doggy downer, but not all of these recipes have the nutritional stats we as Sparkpeople need to make good choices with our various eating plan journeys. Other than that, the article was great. I just wouldn't make any of the recipes that don't have the stats. Report
Ginger has so many health benefits. I always have fresh ginger, ginger essential oil, and powedered ginger in my house. I love using slices of fresh ginger in clear soup broth for an Asian flare. I also love adding grated fresh ginger to stir fried veggies or ground meat mixtures for lettuce wrap dishes. Report
