My new ticker tracks my maintenance weight!

Starting weight in Jan 2009 was approximately 200 lbs.

Lost 75+ pounds in 2 years.

Now onto a lifetime of living healthy and keeping my weight right where it is.

Update for 2011

My last weigh-in was 125 lbs. That is approximately a 75 pound loss (assuming a start weight of 200 lbs, my best guess). Now trying for 123, which is just about the middle of normal BMI for my height, although that number is flexible.

My husband is very close to 200 lbs now, and is excited about leaving the 200's behind. It's been a two year journey so far, and we are looking forward to being as healthy as we can for the rest of our lives!

Finally another update! 04/14/2010

Well, I am fast approached "normal" weight - just a few pounds to go to reach 140, the top of normal based on BMI. I still want to get 10 - 15 pounds under that, so I'm shooting for hitting my goal weight in October. I changed my profile picture - it's an old photo, but seems to represent my current weight. If we get around to taking any new pics, I'll add one of those.

My husband is just about ready to move from "obese" to "overweight". But, if you know my take on the BMI chart for men, you will know that I don't agree with this assessment. He recently saw our new doctor, who was incredibly impressed (and perhaps a little jealous) at how well Edward is doing! Anyhoo, Edward is quickly moving into large shirts, down from XXL when we started this process. He is also wearing size 38 501s and 36 in most other brand pants. I think if he can get under 200 (about 20 pounds away), he will look even more fabulous then he looks now.

Another Update (12/6/2009): Great weight loss recently, and I'm down more than 40 pounds total to 159.5. Edward has lost 40 himself! I'll still need to lose about 30 in 2010, if I want to get back to what I was in 2002 (see photos in my gallery), but I will just keep on going and see where I get!

Even Newer Update (10/10/09): So now I am weighing myself, and finding that it will motivate me (after the initial disappointment, that is). I am officially "overweight" rather than obese at 168 lbs. (Down from what I estimate was topping 200 lbs when I began). Edward has lost 36 lbs total. Concerning my original goal when I began (end of Dec 2008) of wearing a size 14 on my 45th birthday (12/20/09), I'm feeling optimistic that I will make it! I'll keep y'all posted.

Update: As of the beginning of Sept, my husband (who is not scale-phobic) has lost 30+ pounds! I'm still in the same size clothes (16), but they are looser, and I have dropped down a size in underwear (8 to 7). I also finally got a gyne checkup and a mammogram, so yeah me!

Original Intro follows:

My focus is on eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise. I have some challenges due to injuries and chronic pain, but I believe I can someday be the healthier person I used to be.

In December, my husband had to start taking statins. I had this epiphany that we were both on the path to taking drugs for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes, if we didn't start making changes NOW.

I was also diagnosed in January with early stage macular degeneration. There is no real treatment or cure, but I can save my eyesight as long as possible by being proactive with sunglasses and eating lots of healthy food. So working on increasing the quality of my diet is essential.

Interesting things about me:

*As you can see to the left, I am a scrapbooker (lapsed).
*My new favorite hobby is entering contests, and I've won many wonderful prizes including a guitar and a Wii!
*I am an avid Formula 1 racing fan and dream of going to a race in Europe (I did get to one in the US when they were still here).
*I hate seeing doctors.
*I have 5 older siblings who still think I'm the "baby".

My Goals:
I would like:

To reduce pain by putting less strain on my leg and increasing my strength.

To improve my overall health by eating better and reducing my weight.

To have more energy to do the things I love.

My Program:
I eat a pescetarian diet (vegetarian + fish) and I'm trying to increase my vegetables and fruit and whole grains.

For the first time in my life, I am working to make sweets/desserts a true occasional treat (once per week or less).

I am shooting for an average of 50 minutes of aerobic exercise a day plus strength training three times a week.
