I am a stay at home mom come optician with a degree in Psychology. I live in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle. I have two grown sons, the youngest having just turned 18 this year. I grew up on a small farm on the other side of the sound, but now live in suburbia...I love the open country and animals and am blessed that my parents, married over 50 years, still live in my childhood home abundant with fields, forest and streams. My boys have spent nearly every summer with them and their lives have thus been truly enriched.

I came to SP a few years back to shave off that pesky 10 pounds that vexes most of us at some point in life. I used to be a runner but now I have a knee that flares instantly the minute I hit the street. I miss running and the freedom to just be able to open my front door and get an exhilarating cardio workout out in the fresh air without ever setting foot in a gym. But now I have this wonderful site full of thoughtful people who share the same goal of good health. I love the quick, easy, free mini workout videos on Sparkpeople as well as the recipe ideas. I also enjoy connecting with other sparkers and appreciate the supportive environment.

I do believe that laughter is the best medicine and love irony, witty humor, sarcasm and anything that involves a play on words. I've learned that a lot of the time reality is funnier than fiction and you need to be able to laugh at yourself if you're going to get through it unscathed. I've learned that exercising will never be as easy as eating but that the easy way is almost never the right way. And finally, I can assure you that money does not buy happiness, but still, I'd rather be miserable in a Mercedes than on a bicycle. And for my last pearl of wisdom (customized just for SP): Pig out today, tomorrow you pay!

My Goals:
My goals are to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

My Program:
I love super cheap, easy diets with structured meal plans that take the guesswork out of the equation.. Don't thrills me to see weight drop quickly. I know these diets are not recommended, but they seem to be the only way I can lose weight. I'm impatient when it comes to weight loss. I want to hurry and lose it so I can get back to "good eating" again. I know the roller coaster of weight gain and loss is very bad and frowned upon by nutritionists. But to tell you the truth, I've always liked roller coasters. Whenever I see one while visiting a new place, I HAVE to get on it. Cheap thrills, what can I say?

Personal Information:
Cookies are my kryptonite.

Other Information:
Once I bungee jumped over a crocodile pit in Australia.

Thank s for posting on my mulch blog.

Making palate compost bins is fairly simple:

Gather palates that are the same size. (Local businesses give them away for free here)
Having a flat area to place them is best. My land slopes, so I used bricks under the pallets as needed.

Three pallets will make one bin - if you want to do a row of bins, then each subsequent bin takes two pallets to complete

Line up the first side and back pieces. Screw them together top bottom and middle - more if you want to. Screw the other side on the same way

To add a second bin to this, screw the second back pallet to one of the first pallets side. Then add the side to it.

I used old lumber through the slits in the pallets to keep the material in place. If you were creative, I'm sure there is a way to add hinges and have a swinging door (made from a pallet) added to the front of your bin.

I made four bins using nine pallets along the pass through driveway.

There are numerous UTube videos on how to build them.
