Hi. I am a 66 years old and have been overweight since 1995. The closest I have gotten to my goal weight of 135 (and maybe lower) was in October of 2018 when I landed at 158. Due to health issues and lack of being able to "get back in the rhythm" I am back to about 190, but don't intend to stay there! Starting the 5% Summer Challenge 2020 is the beginning of the END of this weight!

I am due to have cataract surgery during this challenge. I do not at this time know how my exercise schedule will be impacted, but will do all I can to keep moving.
Unless there is an unforseen holdup, plans are Right eye on August 5, Left eye on the 19th of August.

Fitness Minutes: 65,828

My Goals:
Since my weight gain, I am back in a prediabetic state and I will lose at least my 5% this time -- Probably will be 9.5 pounds but that will be determined with my weigh-in tomorrow.


My Program:
Eating Plan: I will count calories while emphasizing whole foods and high fiber with mostly non-starchy veggies. Rule of thumb -- No high carb foods that have no fiber (cookies, cake pudding, candy, sugar (except a little honey or other sweetener in an occasional recipe or sugary drinks), I will also highlight healthy fats: avocado, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, seeds, and avocado.
I will use Mindful Eating Techniques and adhere to intermittent fasting: eating in an 8 hour window between
11 am and 7 pm.
I plan to eat at least 5 servings of low starch veggies, 2 servings of fruit, 1/2 cup of beans, 2 servings of meat, 1 serving of whole grains, and and 5-7 servings of healthy fats with 1 serving being 1 tsp oil, 2 walnuts, 1TBS flaxseed, hemp seed, or chia seed, or 1 oz avocado. I will divide my weight in half and drink that many ounces of pure, filtered water daily.
My exercise program will include weight training on my total gym (starting over slowly), 4 days a week alternating



Personal Information:
Married 46 years in 2020 to a wonderful man. We are Christians and my faith is an important part of my life. I would not be the person I am today without Jesus and I am eternally grateful to have been born into a Christian family in a country in which I am free to worship, have my Bible, and practice my faith. I am blessed to live in a country in which our laws are based on the Word of God! We have two grown children, 6 grands and a great-grand. Love to cook. Also sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch and crafts. Read. Play piano, saxophone, and accordion. Write music, prose, and poetry. Had a very hard time when the kids left the nest. Took 13 years for me to get over it. Gained this weight when I got something called Lichen Planus (they didn't know at that time what caused it or how to treat it ) .Now I know that it was caused by an antibiotic called Cipro that I took for a bout of bronchitis and finished just weeks before the Lichen Planus started breaking out. Other Information:
My true highest beginning weight was 227 in Feb of 2011. Somewhere I think there is a picture of me then. If I can find it, it will be my Before Picture. I did have a picture of myself eating an ice cream cone on vacation at about 215 lbs and my buttons on my blouse were about to pop. I hid that one from myself because it embarrassed me to look at it, even in private. My fasting blood sugar was 116 at my highest weight. Lost 20 pounds in 4 months by just watching myself and my portions but my blood sugar didn't change. Went on Atkins and in 3 days my fasting blood sugar was 98. I stayed on it from June 1 2011 until mid October lost 37 more for a total of 57 pounds lost but then ate a piece of birthday cake (though I didn't crave a thing) and fell way off the wagon.. Got off Atkins and gained 20 back. I have been rocking back and forth with those 20 or 30 pounds for years and now it has to stop! UPDATE! IT DID STOP! I lost 42 pounds from Jan 1 2017 to the end of Sept. and my A1C dropped
