Do we all have a skinny, little kid inside us who never walks when they can run or never runs when they can do cartwheels? I had a neighbor as a child and this is how she described me. My mom had to make all my clothes because I was so skinny and long-legged that she had to make pants with a pattern for a much younger child…and then add a foot to the length.

Those were the years when food was something to be “inhaled”, years before it became a means of controlling myself or others. Before I used it to torture myself and cause others to fear. Before it had the power to kill. Back when it was something to be enjoyed; when my mom had a chance to shine as a great cook.
How does that happen? How does food become our drug of choice? The best means of celebration and the secret silent nights when we pile a plate high and gulp it down, hating ourselves more with every bite.

A book I read pointed out that it was the passion of appetite that led Eve to take the fruit and bite to the core of death, “when she saw the fruit was good for food, she took and ate it. The enemy serpent knew the greedy heart in mankind or rather the one that was awakened in our first parents as they shared the forbidden fruit. And we have struggled with our errant senses ever since.

Maybe the sick regret that is our payment for self-indulgence will be our ultimate undoing as we look at the test reports touting their dire outcomes and hear the doctors’ bleak prophecies unless we change our ways. Whether too much or too little food---the fact is that if it is misused, it has the power to kill us---once it has done its best to humiliate us and shame us into thinking we are somehow less than we are in fact.

Food can be God’s greatest blessing—and Satan’s worst curse and most powerful tool. And there is the pursuit of the ability of keeping food within its proper boundaries….to pare off the puffy pounds of flesh we have lugged around for too many years. God grants us second chances. A second chance with every morning’s awakening. Welcome to the gates of new beginnings and second chances.

My Goals:
To lose 20 lbs. (done)
To find ways to regain some lost strength.
To laugh more.
To help more than I am helped.

My Program:
I will try to make more of my meals rather than resorting to frozen meals ...This is hard because of pain . But If i DO eat frozen, I want to try to stick to the healthy brands ...Those limited portions are helpful.

I will try to drink more water and make the diet soda a rare treat.

I will limit my night time eating. That will probably also help me to sleep better

To try to get adequate sleep.

To blog and to talk to friends in order to be held accountable and also to receive encouragement..

Will attempt some gentle stretching and also some strength work focusing on my core.

Personal Information:
I suffer from a debilitating form of a Rheumatic AutoImmune Disease (PsA)as well as RA and SJ (Sjogrens's Syndrome) and Glaucoma and have had 7 major joint replacement surgeries thus far, with 3 more pending

I love the Lord Jesus and wish to live a life of moderation and restraint.

I hope to begin to simplify my life. Shedding excess things and getting down to what really matters

Other Information:
I'm looking for ways to continue my creative output despite physical limitation.
I have kept a blog since 2009 and have had 285,000 visitors. It is my "opus magnus"
..
In September,`14 my first book, a memoir, was published--that was a dream for years and now is a reality.

Dear Cynthia, I will continue to keep you in prayer. Sorry to hear of your struggles. I have Sjogren’s too. I take a Rx for the dry mouth called cevimeline. It increases saliva production. Wonder if it or one of the similar medicines could help you?
I do paint every once in a while. The arts organization I am in usually has a big sale in December. This year we managed to get it online and get the physical warehouse and socially distanced fulfillment for the online sales set up. That was crazy. It’s still there at LexArt.org. If you put my first name in the search bar at the top you can see all my work as I’m the only Janis. There are 9 guilds, I’m in the Painters Guild, also Woodworkers, Weavers, Ceramics and many more.

Hi Cynthia, Thanks for thinking of me. I pray for you (and other RAD team members) every day. I am good. Trying (not always successfully) to stick to my calorie goals and get out and walk when I can but sometimes it is so darn cold! Thankful for SparkPeople! How are you doing?
