Howdy, from the small town of Dickinson,Texas! I'm a stay-at-home wife/mother & have been married for over 40 years, resulting in 7 children and with 4 of them married, we have 10 grandchildren so far! I was a homeschooling mom for 32 years & "retired" a few years ago with the high school graduation of my youngest...but with a 20 year old son & a 23 year old daughter still at home, our household stays very busy with church, family, friends & juggling everyone's crazy schedule!

I never struggled with my weight until menopause...and I have the pictures to prove it! Maybe that's why they call it 'the change' because it sure changes things! Tracking calories & exercise don't control my weight quite as easily as they used to. I still do both, but I have to work a little harder at it. An aging metabolism is NOT fun!
Update: I FINALLY figured out that my Fitbit fitness tracker overestimates the number of calories I burn in a day. I'm doing much better now that I know that! I also looked back at my Spark records & found the reason I regained in the past is that I stopped tracking my food! Menopause doesn't make it any easier, but I think my own laziness has been part of the problem too!
I found Sparkpeople/Sparkrecipes in early 2009 & but my first use of the SP nutrition tracker & first weigh-in was Dec 28, 2010 at 154 lbs. I went up and down with my weight after that until 2015 when I decided to lose for good. I used my son's wedding as motivation but realized I really did want to lose the midlife weight and keep it off permanently. Maintenance takes just as much work as losing the weight! I enjoy learning about fitness & health and Sparkland is a great resource that helps me do both!

My Goals:
Long term goal: I exercise so I can stay strong & healthy and be able to lift, run & squat when I need to! #functionalfitness
Short term goal: To do a 5K and to be able to do 'real' pushups! Accomplished in 2017!
2018 Goals: Get better at pushups and maybe do another 5K!. Track food 100% of the time in 2018!
My general goal is to MAINTAIN a weight between 125-135 lbs. and to regularly exercise...both cardio and strength training.
My Program:
I often workout at home & have a treadmill, weights & assorted exercise equipment. I particularly enjoy walking outside, the kettlebell swing & step aerobics! I love my Fitbit...though sometimes I wonder who is the boss...it or me?! I walk regularly and am beginning to run a little.
2018 update: I signed up for a Cardio Drums class for fall...sounds like fun!
Personal Information:
Pioneer Baptist Church is an integral part of my life and I am grateful to God for saving me.
I'm a native West Virginian transplanted to the great state of Texas!
Other stuff....I live in a log house and home educated all 7 of my children.
Other Information:
Highest (non-pregnant) Weight: 165.5 lbs on 3/12/2015
I have struggled with about a 30-35 lb weight gain since reaching menopause in 2008.
My goal is to keep a better handle on my post-menopausal weight and be able to MAINTAIN that hold!
