American football is a pretty complicated game to understand and it was originally based off of rugby (with some soccer thrown in). There are tons of rules and so many small nuances that even after 30 + years of watching and playing I still notice new things every once in a while! 2952 days ago

Thanks so much for the comment on the blog. Being happy isn't an easy task. It is so easy to get caught up in worry, regret, anxiety and all the other things that crop up everyday. It was hard for me to find my happiness. I struggled with finding it for over 35 years. But one day I looked back and said if I made it through all of that. I can make it through anything. While something may be hard and difficult. You know what if it makes me happier in the end it is worth it. I am worth it. YOU are worth it!!

Let me see if I can explain football in a way that makes sense to you.
You have the NFL which is National Football League, this is the organization in which the teams play in. The NFL is split into two different conferences, National and American. The National conference is made mostly of teams that have been playing since the 30's (or there about). The American conference is mostly made of teams that started in a rival organization (the American Football League or AFL) in 1960. In the early 70's the two leagues merged, forming one league under the banner of the NFL.
There are 16 teams in each conference, each conference is broken into 4 divisions of 4 teams each, divided mostly by geographic region, North, South, East and West. Each of the 32 teams in the NFL play 16 games during the season. At the end of the season, the best 6 teams from conference enter into the playoffs. After a few weeks of playoffs, the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC) each have a conference champion. These conference champions then meet in the Super Bowl to decide which team is the league champion.
There are no state teams like you have in rugby, soccer or cricket. I think our professional sports teams would be looked at like club teams in those sports. Our teams are located in mostly large cities (San Francisco, Dallas, New York City, Chicago, Miami, etc.).
