Update: Feb 9, 2012

The biggest goal for me this year is to get down below 200 pounds. But as a part of that goal, I have some running and exercise goals as well.

1. Break 200 pounds
I've only seen less than 200 pounds for a few months in the last 10 years. This is my biggest and main goal for 2012. Everything else is how i'm going to get there.
2. Complete a running training plan
I'm doing Hal Higdon's Advanced 5k training plan available at I've started at least half a dozen training plans in the last 10 years, but never quite finished one. Getting sick, work commitments, LIFE have gotten in the way. Completing a training plan will be a major milestone for me. I'm almost at the half-way mark, so let's see what I can do.
3. Get a PR in my favorite 5k race. the Rex Lee Run is hosted by the university where I got both of my degrees. The race proceeds go towards cancer research, and I've run it several times so I can easily compare my race times to the past. My fastest is 24'45". My goal is to break the 24' mark. I will have to be fast.
4. Include strength training in my exercise routines
After my race, this means that I'll do more cross training than I've been doing at the first part of this year. I'm also trying to include some dumbbell work right now and through the rest of the year. I like lifting weights, but I've done most of it at the gym. The discipline to get some done at home will be a major step. (Can't afford the gym).
5. 1,200 miles in 2012
This will include walking, running, hiking... all of my foot travel. (No biking or swimming, but I haven't really decided if I'll take up either of those again this year so I really haven't left anything out so far.) After the first week of February, I'm already past the 140 mile mark and on target.
6. Consistency
For each of these goals to happen, I'm going to have to carry through the whole year. I'm going to be regularly active this year. I'm going to do this.

Update for the new year (7/3/2011)

I started with spark in January of 2010. I was already down 15 pounds or more from my heaviest. I lost another 10 or more pounds on spark. Then there were foot problems, trying to graduate, and trying to get a job. Over the last year, my weight creeped up about 10 pounds, but I've been steady. Rather than having a 30 pound weight loss, I'm maintaining a 20 pound weight loss.

Now, it's time to work on another 10 to 20. I'd love to see a glimpse of the 200s, even for a week.

January 2010
Starting out a fat fish, but it's time to get movin'.

Last August I reached Homer Simpson's average weight: 239 or so. (How I know that and other Homer comparisons will not be examined at this point.)

With that in mind, here's a quote from Homer:

I am going on a diet.
From this day forward, I pledge there will be no pork chop too succulent!
No donut too tasty!
No pizza too laden with delicious toppings to prevent me from reaching my scientifically-determined ideal weight!
As God as my witness, I'll always be hungry again!!
-- Homer, upon realizing he needs to lose weight, ``Brush with Greatness''

¿don't we all feel that way sometimes?

I'm down 12 pounds on my own. I joined SparkPeople in mid-January. We'll keep going on this path to be healthy (not hungry).

You would think working at this as long as we have been we would be able to fly free. I still feel so lost without spark, as if everyday I don't log I just go wild for no reason besides I feel like I am being bad. I kinda feel as if I am have picked up new bad habits from other ppl here as well that I never had before. My boss trains dogs and she said recently when dogs are around other dogs they seem to only pick up the bad habits and never the good ones. I wonder if its like that with people also.

Oh wow how cool! I was just listening to an old podcast on Monday and he had a story on there. I was thinking of his story you told me about You should sit in on his class, that sounds very cool! I will have to look up that interview with Christopher McDoughell. Have you seen you video of him talking before? He seems kinda ummmm ummmmmmmm lol He reminds me a lot of barefoot ted, I think they might be the same person haha

I love my vibrams! I have 4 pairs! I would totally recommend them. I have run a few times barefoot but I hit the top of my toes on the ground when I run sometimes cuz I am clumsy. Doing that barefoot ends in a lot of bleeding lol My husband has 2 pairs and he wears them mostly to work. His 2nd and 3rd toe are longer then his 1st so he doesnt run in the vibrams well. He runs barefoot, he runs in the sandals that were in born to run that the indians use. He also recently got a pair of Runamocs by Softstar, he really likes those. You measure your foot and they actually make the shoe for you based on all your measurements. You can pick a 6mm or 2 mm sole. Which is basically the same sole that they use on the sandals that Barefoot Ted pushes.
