I don't recall Auckland getting to the 40's however we have had in the low 30's. When the high humidity is added in it doesn't make it nice. The lower South Island has gotten to over 40C but they have a less humid summer (except for the flooding at the moment LOL!) The smoke from Sidney is expected over here in a few days. We sometimes see the fiery red haze in the sunset which is attributed to your fires, too. I don't think I would be too good over there at the moment. Apart from the fact I can't take heat, I am also an asthmatic. My son is also asthmatic and gets copped by the North American and Canadian fires too. He ended up with Pneumonia a few times in one season because of it. Funny thing is, during what was supposed to be the worst part of the fire season this year, they went to Italy for a holiday to escape it and keep his lungs clear. There didn't end up being a problem with the air in Vancouver LOL! They DID enjoy Italy tho!

Your friends will have a wonderful time down there. They've had temps in the South Island have been into the low 30'sC just recently - it just tends to be a mixed bag of 4 seasons in one day LOL! This week the temps down Queenstown are predicted to be around 20C. My nephew lives down there. He is a photographer (nature) and takes some truly stunning photos. He came second in the National Geographic Photographer of the year for his class about 3 years ago. He is usually at the Queenstown Markets in the Weekends.

I saw on the news last night and lunchtime today that the fires in New South Wales are flaring again. It's never ending. I don't ever recall it having been like that before and NZ news outlets give a lot of what's happening in Australia.

The weather in my area has been kind - not so kind further south, however. We got 2 minutes of rain (literally TWO minutes) this afternoon and yesterday as well. Both about the same time of day. I see the fires in your neck of the woods are still going, however we aren't seeing as much of it on the TV news the last few days. It seems funny having snow at this time of year, altho' I remember a few years where this has happened in NZ.

I've been thinking of you a lot. Our news has had a lot re the large number of bad fires in Australia. I hope that you aren't being affected by them and remain safe. The South Island is being affected by that bad dust storm that plagued Sidney a while back. Hopefully it doesn't blow up this way. xxx
