Hi Kari. Thank you for asking to be s. I'd be happy to help guide you in your writing. SparkMail me any time with your questions or problems and please consider joining one or both of the writing teams I co-lead. There you can read tips and questions others have. One basic rule: A writer writes. Don't get hung up on books; that's only one of more than two dozen ways to earn money writing I can think of right off. Hi Kari, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've never had any real "schooling" regarding poetry - we had an assignment when I was back in grade school and I discovered that putting words together (especially rhyming words) came very easily to me. I've always been an avid reader and over these many years I have enjoyed the works of many "poets" - published and not.
Most of the poets have a passion for a particular subject: Thoreau and Frost write about nature, the Bronte sisters wrote under pseudonyms so as not to be considered "unfeminine," etc.
So I guess to answer your question, the best way to learn about poetry is to read it. Look up the lyrics to songs (many of them started as poems)...

Thank you for my goodie and for adding me as a friend. It's been a rough day. I get cycles of headaches and had been without for a couple of weeks. Today I am experiencing a migraine and feeling very tired. Your goodie brought a smile! God bless, Kim 3139 days ago
