Hello and welcome to my spark page.

I am really looking forward to starting the 5% Fall challenge. I have been doing these challenges with the SUDS team since 2013. I love these challenges as they help to keep me motivated and doing my best to stay on track. It has not always been easy to keep going, but doing something is better than nothing.

I have had my share of set backs and I have tried very hard to not get discouraged but to keep on going. I am a care giver for my husband as he is a 100% disabled vet, who served 27 years in the Navy. He is still mobile but falls and I don't leave him for any longer than I have to. I am a 4 year Breast Cancer survivor. The treatments take a toll on your body and takes a while to get over. The meds I take to help keep the cancer from returning makes you gain weight, affects your joints and bones and just make you feel yucky at times. My oncologist tells me to work through it and don't give in to it. I am trying very hard to do just that. I saw my oncologist for my 6 month check up and I am still in remission and May of this year will make me in remission for four years. God has been good to me and that is one reason, if not most important, I keep going and don't up.

NEVER GIVE UP is what I try to live by. If I have a bad day I just keep going the next day. I know I can do it!!

Best of luck to my fellow DAWGIEs, old and new. WE CAN DO THIS!! Let's show the other teams what we DAWGS are made of!!

My Goals:
I hope to continue losing weight to avoid heart problems and diabetes as these are two health problems that run in my family. I am currently on a diabetic diet as I was borderline on being a bo diabetic. I will exercise every day and drink my water. I am participating in the 2019 5% Spring Challenge and want to meet my goal during this challenge. I also will be fighting to keep my cancer from returning.

My Program:
I have a treadmill and an elliptical that I use at home. I also have several other exercise machines and various exercise videos I use. I use the pre-diabetic diet now and of course I use the tools available for me here at SP! I am slowly making progress and I know that one day I will reach my ultimate goal. I have dropped my A1c from 6.0 to 5.7 so I am in the normal range for not becoming diabetic.

Personal Information:
I am 67 the mother of 4 and have my 12 grandchildren. My husband retired from the Navy after serving for 27 yrs. I got to live in Rota, Spain and I also got to visit Bermuda. We will be married 48 years this year. We also have our first great grandchild. She brings a lot of joy to us.

Other Information:
I live in TN and I am a retired Teacher's Asst. I worked with special needs children and I miss them terribly. I am trying to get use to not working every day and this is really a hard thing for me to get use too. I have developed some bad habits since I retired, like staying up too late and sleeping in too late. Things have got to change and get back into a regular routine.

HI Sue!! I MISS You too hon!!! How are things going for you?

I'm now a foster grandmother in the neighboring city!! I laughed and laughed when they told me where, because I went there 50 YEARS AGO!!! Once the students know me better (Just started last week) I'll show them a picture of me there!!

I now work 26 hours a week. LOL I'd LOVE to say the 2nd graders simply EXHAUST me, but it'd not be true!! I thrive on their energy!

AMAZING Sue, you are almost at the 5 years mark of being in remission!! WOW!! It was so scary seeing how much you suffered, but you NEVER Quit!! WTG Sue!! WTG hon!!! I am so PROUD OF YOU!!! You give so many of us the COURAGE we need if we should face cancer.

When you hit the 5 year mark will any of the meds no longer be in place? Are you able to see a nutritionist to figure out what's happening?

I DID call my Dr at the end of Dec because I was SUPER GAINING!! She told me to eat at the low end of my calorie range and I am,, and this week 2.9 lbs GONE. I had to keep telling myself "I am NOT missing out on cookies, candy, chips, WHOOPIE PIES" Instead I am having "a piece or 2 of hard candy, Cottage cheese (pineapple with cherries, SWEET and YUMMY!!), yogurt.

I DO Have a hot chocolate (Flavored, so higher in cals) with Fluff (LOL You can look up Fluff if you aren't familiar with it,, oh man it's AWESOME!) when I REALLY want it, but I try to skip a few days or have it earlier in the day so I can burn off the cals.

    MANY HUGS hon!

    PS You are STILL PAWSOME!!!
