The 2021 5% Spring Challenge
Hello and welcome to my spark page. I am really looking forward to starting the 5% Spring challenge. I have been doing these challenges with the SUDS team since 2013. I love these challenges as they help to keep me motivated and doing my best to stay on track. It has not always been easy to keep going, but doing something is better than nothing. I have had my share of set backs and I have tried very hard to not get discouraged but to keep on going. I am a care giver for my husband as he is a 100% disabled vet, who served 27 years in the Navy. He is still mobile but falls and I don't leave him for any longer than I have to. I am a 5 year Breast Cancer survivor. The treatments take a toll on your body and takes a while to get over. The meds I take to help keep the cancer from returning makes you gain weight, affects your joints and bones and just make you feel yucky at times. My oncologist tells me to work through it and don't give in to it. I am trying very hard to do just that. I saw my oncologist for my 6 month check up and I am still in remission and on July 1st of this year I will see him again and the will do tests on my tumor to see how aggressive it is. This will determine if I will stay on meds for another 5 years. God has been good to me and that is one reason, if not most important, I keep going and don't ever give up. NEVER GIVE UP is what I try to live by. If I have a bad day I just keep going the next day. I know I can do it!! Best of luck to my fellow DAWGIEs, old and new. WE CAN DO THIS!! Let's show the other teams what we DAWGS are made of!! I went to see my oncologist in February and I am almost 6 years in remission. I am off of my meds and I don't have to go back and see him anymore. I just have to keep having my diagnostic mammograms done once a year. The test they did on my tumor showed that the meds had done their job and that I have a 9.8% chance of long term return of my breast cancer coming back. I gave this to God 6 years ago because I knew I couldn't do it by myself. Whatever he has in store for me will be what's in my future.

My Goals:
I hope to continue losing weight to avoid heart problems and diabetes as these are two health problems that run in my family. I am currently on a diabetic diet as I was borderline on being a diabetic. I will exercise every day and drink my water. I am participating in the 2020 5% Fall Challenge and want to meet my goal during this challenge. I also will be fighting to keep my cancer from returning.
My Program:
I have a treadmill and an elliptical that I use at home. I also have several other exercise machines and various exercise videos I use. I use the pre-diabetic diet now and of course I use the tools available for me here at SP! I am slowly making progress and I know that one day I will reach my ultimate goal. I have dropped my A1c from 6.0 to 5.7 so I am in the normal range for not becoming diabetic.
Personal Information:
I am 68 the mother of 4 and have my 12 grandchildren and 1 great graanddaughter. My husband retired from the Navy after serving for 27 yrs. I got to live in Rota, Spain and I also got to visit Bermuda. We will be married 49 years this year. We also have our first great grandchild. She brings a lot of joy to us.
Other Information:
I live in TN and I am a retired Teacher's Asst. I worked with special needs children and I miss them terribly. I am trying to get use to not working every day and this is really a hard thing for me to get use too. I have developed some bad habits since I retired, like staying up too late and sleeping in too late. Things have got to change and get back into a regular routine.
