Let's do this---again

August 27, 2017 was my 1 year anniversary since restarting my life-style change. The change has been significant for me. I have lost 85#, I am exercising regularly, and I feel better than I have in many years. My biggest challenge now is to `stay focused and not wander away or slide back toward my old habits. I have lost 85#, I am exercising regularly, and I feel better than I have in many years. My biggest challenge now is to `stay focused and not wander away or slide back toward my old habits. I am getting a lot of support from new friends here on SP. I have also made new friends at work and through my bike club who share my biking interest and are also working toward improving their health with diet and exercise. These support systems make all the difference.
I am participating in the Winter 5% challenge. My exercise commitment for the upcoming Fall 5% challenge is a continuation of my summer exercise program:
Bike riding with a goal 100 miles per week/400 miles per month.
Swimming laps M-W-F
To support my goals:
-my bike lives in my van, so it's always available for a ride
-I keep my bike bag with clothes and water bottles packed and in the van. Since I like to ride after work, I take the bike bag in to work so I can change and fill bottles.
- Since I swim before work, I pack my bag the night before including clothes for work and my lunch.

According to my spark page, I’ve been a member since 5-7-12. I think I signed in then to use the calorie counter. A friend and I at work were buddying up in a life-style change program. We were just doing it together with no formal organizational support. It worked well and I lost almost 100 #, until I ran out of steam and fell back into old habits, stopped exercising, and regained almost everything. I really started working with spark people in August 27, 2017. I have lost 70#. I didn’t start exercising regularly until this past January. I am not quite as fit as I was before, but it’s getting better.
I have joined the Summer 5% Challenge. Below are my
Challenge exercise and diet commitments:
Summer 5%Challenge Exercise Commitment:
1. I have been working on my cycling fitness and have a goal of riding at 300 miles/mo.
2. Swimming 2 days a week
3. Stretching after each cycling session
Summer 5%Challenge Diet Commitment
I have the best success counting calories and have consistently tracked it on SP. I commit to continuing this but will be more disciplined about staying within by calorie range.
3-30-18
I have now been working with SP for 7 months and recently reached my 50# lost goal. I am exercising regularly and steadily getting stronger.
I have joined the Spring 5% Challenge. Below are my Challenge exercise and diet commitments:
Spring 5%Challenge Exercise Commitment:
1. I have been working on my cycling fitness and have a goal of riding at least 40 miles/wk. I am now able to bike 18 miles and moderate hills (as found in north central FL). During the spring challenge, I commit to increasing my distance commitment to 50 mi/wk during April and 60mi/wk during May.
2. Strength training at home T and TH x 30 min.
3. Yoga/stretching Mon-Fri 30 min
Spring 5%Challenge Diet Commitment
I have the best success counting calories and have consistently tracked it on SP. I commit to continuing this but will be more disciplined about staying within by calorie range.

I have recently turned 61, looking forward to retiring in the foreseeable future. I have struggled with my weight throughout my life, always able to lose weight but never reaching my goal and always gaining it back. I am now back up to my highest weight, 315#. My weight and lack of conditioning interfere with the life I want to live now and when I retire.
I am a nurse practitioner working in FL. I live with my husband of 20 years on a 5 acre property with 3 horses, 2 German shepherds, and I cockatiel.
