Hi! My name is Debbie. I have struggled with my weight my entire aduIt life. I had gastric bypass surgery 13 years ago. I am malnurished, but gaining weight. My goal is to increase my vitamin and mineral levels while losing 20 pounds. I have lost 5 pounds, but have been stuck for a couple of weeks. It could be due to me being sick and not exercising. I am back on track now with my exercises so we'll see what happens.

My top weight in April 1999 was 282 pounds. My lowest weight after my second gastric bypass with duodenal switch was 117 pounds. I stablelized to around 125 pounds for a couple of years then gradually gained 10 pounds every couple of years. As of January 9, 2012 I was 155 pounds. I decided it was time to take back control. I want to get back down to at least 135, preferably 125.

With the surgery that I had there is a malabsorbtion factor. So I am lacking in Vitamin A, D, E, K, Iron and zinc.

MY FIRST GOAL FOR 2012 is to make sure I take my Bariatric Vitamins 3x a day. I also need to take Omega 3, an extra 5,000 IU's of Vitamin D, iron, B-12 and Zinc every day. I have been doing excellent in remember to take all my vitamins which is a HUGE improvement for me!!

As for my iron, that's another story. I need iron infusions for that, but I am allergic to all three irons that can be used. They are going to put me on a 2 day pre-medication regamine and start up the infusions again. Still waiting to hear from the iron infusion clinic to see when that will happen. UPDATE: I've had to successful infusions and my iron levels are within acceptable range. Now I just need to have monthly blood tests and when the levels dip to a certain point I will have another infusion. It feels good to have to under control. It's been two long years!!!

MY SECOND GOAL FOR 2012 is to start exercising everyday. Rotating cardio with strength building. Starting out slow, I am walking for 20 minutes every other day for the first week, then I will increase by 10 minutes each week building up to one hour a week. I am starting with the Basic Balance Builder here on SparkPeople for my strength building. UPDATE: With being sick for two weeks it's thrown my schedule off. I am up to 2.25 to 2.83 miles on my walks. I am doing them every other day. I am getting so confused with my strength training program, there are so many choices on SP, but I am working on that.

MY THIRD GOAL FOR 2012 is to eat more healthy and avoid sweets as much as possible. I have an incredible sweet tooth, so this is hard for me. I have to be realistic and allow that sometimes I will have a sweet. So I will be happy if I avoid sweets 5 out 7 days a week! UPDATE: I am doing GREAT on eating healthy. If we go out to eat I make good choices and if it doesn't taste good I just don't eat it. Why waste my calories on yucky food? As for sweets, I have the same attitude. The other night we went out for dinner, I was going to allow myself dessert. Well, it looked great, chocolate cake, how can you miss right? It was stale... easy decision to not eat it!

I am still learning as I go. Still struggling with negative self talk. Still fighting the feeling of disappointment of not losing weight fast enough, but the most important thing to me is that I am still doing it! I haven't given up! Another HUGE accomplishment for me.

9. My real goal weight is 135, but when I hit that mark I may go on to 125. That's the weight I like myself at the best. Everyone else likes me at 135 best.

I am reading everything I can on SparkPeople. There is so much information I will be reading for quite some time. I am using the menu planner to help me learn to eat healthy. I am using the fitness tracker to help me learn to exercise. I am using the goal setters to help keep me on track.

    Thanks so much for the supporting words on my blog! You are doing great yourself with your three day (four day?) streak! I hope your trip today was a good one with no junk food munching (maybe just the clementines instead?)!
