My name is Libby and I returned to Sparkpeople after a long hiatus. I had given up trying to lose weight in the past due to a very long list of painful medical conditions, an equally long list of weight-gain causing medications, drastically reduced mobility (due to pain) - and a sense of futility.
But here I am again September 23, 2013....with a renewed determination to become healthier in any way I can....given the physical limitations I still have. It's not been easy - but I will never 'say Uncle'!!!

A new chapter begins............and I'm optimistic.

Member Since: 5/26/2011

Fitness Minutes: 12,351

My Goals:
To be HEALTHY and free of pain

To lose 80 pounds
(I lost 40 & regained 18 - but I learned valuable lessons)

To learn to eat mindfully - be in the moment. It's a very lofty goal.

My Program:
.count calories/WW points
.be aware of carbs.
.no night binges
.drink water
.exercise as much as I'm able

Personal Information:
I'm a young 69....with multiple health issues - all of them painful.

I live in Brooklyn, NY, in a historic park- filled neighborhood.

I love all things cultural; musical. I love the Brooklyn Bridge -- and NO! I'm not going to sell it to you!!

I'm a cancer survivor (lymphoma - 1996)

I make was my passion until I developed these painful conditions. I'm getting back to it slowly and will post photos on this page from time to time.

Mom to Lucy (see photos)

I have good friends and family spread all over the country.....but since I don't fly anymore, it makes it difficult to maintain a close relationship.

I'm a very independent soul....and I'll count on my friends on this site when I need to reach out.

Other Information:
Got a Kindle and rediscovered reading.
My arthritic hands make it difficult to hold a book open.....and this is a miracle for me.

I used to 'power' walk 25-35 miles a week. Now I'm grateful to walk 1-2 blocks a day.....slowly.

My adorable Lucy keeps me to her walking schedule (4x daily) religiously!!

    I just read this poem & felt it too good not to share on this CHRISTmas Eve! God bless!

    {This is another version of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas' }

    'Twas the night before Jesus came
    and all through the house
    Not a creature was praying,
    Not one in the house.
    Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
    In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

    The children were dressing to crawl into bed.
    Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
    And Mom in her rocker with baby on her lap
    Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

    When out of the East there arose such a clatter.
    I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
    Away to the window I flew like a flash,
    Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

    When what to my wondering eyes should appear
    But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
    With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
    I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!

    The light of His face made me cover my head
    It was Jesus! returning just like He had said.
    And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
    I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

    In the Book of Life which He held in His hand
    Was written the name of every saved man.
    He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
    When He said "it's not here" my head hung in shame.

    The people whose names had been written with love
    He gathered to take to His Father above.
    With those who were ready He rose without a sound.
    While all the rest were left standing around.

    I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
    I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
    I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
    Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

    In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
    The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
    There's only one life and when comes the last call
    We'll find that the Bible was true after all!

    (by Reverend Edward M. Gionest, Sr.)

    To those who receive Him, He gives the power to become the sons of God, even to those that believe on his name. Repent and declare with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him up from the dead, you will be saved.

    Hi Libby! I'm still here! It seems like I fell off the face of the earth, but all is well. In fact, I'm now in Texas! I moved last month and started my new job this past Monday. It's going well. I'll send more details later. I so hope you are doing well....
