Hey all!

I have been struggling with eating disorders for the last 5-6 years, being both very underweight (97 lbs at 5'4") and overweight (my current: 185). i am worried about hitting the 200lb mark, and really don't want to get there. I need support to heal from my eating issues, and I'm hoping to find others who have gone through similar things. Message me and let's talk!

UPDATE: As of November 2009, I've dropped 30+ lbs, in part due to The Spark. I have reduced eating disorder behavior significantly, and I have begun teaching a regular yoga class. I also have a fabulous, supportive boyfriend! Life is all about ups and downs, and for me those ups and downs are reflected in my weight. I'm committed to getting to goal weight once again, in a HEALTHY WAY THIS TIME!!

Update October 29, 2011: I am now back to my starting weight, before all of this eating disorder stuff came into play. Half of me finds that very depressing, while half of me celebrates my triumph over disordered eating, one day at a time. I am way less obsessed with body image, and I have a lot of beautiful things/people/opportunities in my life. I would still like to get to goal weight, but I have my whole life ahead of me to do that.

I have started tracking my food again on Sparkpeople to hold myself accountable...I will see if it aggravates my eating disorder or helps me move forward...

Also, I am refocusing on my yoga and teaching practice. Yoga has helped me come back into my body, and teaching is helping me love my body even more!

"Lean not on your own understanding, but in ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path".

"When I find myself scratching my head due to lack of progress, I remind myself that God is RE-Sculpting me and that takes time."

Lord, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference

So here's a little bit of info about the Primal/Paleo diet :)
I'm not going to go into the science of it all, but basically this lifestyle is about eating like our ancestors. Studies have shown that since the agricultural revolution humans have started getting heavier and sicker. Basically, the reason why we're getting fatter is because of the insulin, not because of fat. So all the low-fat diets, which are actually high carbs (because of all the sugar that's added when the fat is taken out) are the ones that are making us fat.
This lifestyle eliminates grains from your diet (and yes that includes whole grains). The stricter Paleo followers also eliminate dairy (I'm still experimenting with that one). Essentially, we eat what our ancestors had available and what our genes are adapted to- meat, poultry and fish (and lot's of it!), vegetables and fruit, nuts and healthy fats (coconut oil, olive oil, avocado, etc.). That's the gist of it but there's plenty more to it! Check out this website for more info (it has a ton of it and really interesting!):

And yes, I would love to have the support during this monthand be happy to support you! emoticon

Thanks for the friend add. I really need to work on eliminating the processed sugar desserts from my eating. Major problem is that I'm a great baker and folks are asking me to bake for them all the time. And even if I don't eat the finished product, there's always the uncooked batter! I'm hopeless! emoticon but I'm going to work on it. I will not be defeated! emoticon

I'm not really good about reducing sugar in my diet.... I'm just trying to balance so many different nutrients- carbs, protein, fat, sodium and fiber, and of course staying within my calorie range, it just becomes too complicated! I try to stay away from refined sugar and straight up candy/chocolate/cakes etc., but I do have sugar in form of fruit, granola bars or protein bars. Keep me updated on how your experiment goes :)
