Healthy Goals
Staying healthy is hard work and takes time, but it is fun, too. I want to stay knowledgeable about health and weight issues and have realistic goals for myself. I want to get to a healthy weight and have fun doing it.
After the summer challenge, I swam across our lake, a little over 1 KM., with my husband keeping track in a canoe close by. I am thankful that I am healthy and can do that.

Now, I do a "challenging for me" Barre class that is hard, but after a few weeks, I notice that it is easier for me. Then I know it is helping.
Spring 2018 5% Challenge: I have done these challenges since 2016 in every season and am maintaining a healthy body and energy, even as I grow older. I have not lost a lot of weight, but gained knowledge about nutrition, exercise and myself. (Of course there has been the fun of getting to know new people on the team, too.)
Towards the end of this challenge, we have a lot of company arriving and an anniversary celebration. Losing some weight before that would be beneficial.
My exercise plans are not set in stone since many things I do depend on weather, opportunity and circumstance. I will work in the garden and do housework. Most days I walk the dog with my husband for and hour or more. I go to a barre class once a week that includes yoga. That is strength training mainly and I will incorporate at least an hour a week added to that at home doing strength and yoga.
I have wanted to bike more when spring arrives and have in the past not done this, so I am planning on doing short rides at first and then extending the rides as I get fitter.
I have dvd's and cd's with music that I dance to and do other exercises for a change. They are at my fingertips and I can have a mat and weights ready, too.
One of my CD's is music for jogging and this gets my heart rate up which is beneficial, too. I can do this on our driveway and on the road.
Music is a great way for me to enjoy exercise.
My nutrition plan is simple. We already eat healthy and mainly home cooked meals. My problem is eating too many calories compared to my output.
I will count calories some days and on others use the question, "Are you really hungry now or are you eating for some other reason?". Just eating mindfully really helps. I will cut calories by eating less fat, and fewer sweet items than usual. Filling up on vegetables and fruit helps me, too. I also eat enough protein, usually at every meal. Healthy snacks help to me not get overly hungry.I am going to try to make meals that are less calorie dense and watch portions.

Just getting back here after some health challenges and doing well. I am planning to exercise more again and be more mindful of my nutrition.,

I need to get back to my weight loss goals and I keep getting off track and distracted.
Sept. 24th, 2019
Looking back at swimming across the lake, etc. seems like a long time ago. I hope I can do that again, but after serious health problems and treatment, I have a long way to go to be that fit.
I feel positive positive that I am on the mend now and will only get stronger, but I am getting older at the same time.
Yesterday, I did a workout that used to be difficult after one hour and I managed 30 minutes. That was difficult enough, but I did it.
My "go to" classes, barre, zumba, etc. are no longer available, so I need to find new fun ways to exercise. Walking is still a favorite, especially with friends or my husband.Swimming at the pool might be another idea for me.
Looking seriously at portions in my nutrition is also something that needs attention.
So, I have tough goals and will push on.
June 5, 2020
I am working on exercise 6 days a week and will include:
strength 3x a week
stretching 6x a week
cardio 5x or 6x a week
My nutrition goals are to continue to eat a well balanced diet with more emphasis on vegetables and fruit and smaller portions overall.
June 10
I'm gong to use my "detective" skills to figure out why I have eaten too much when it happens and why I did not do any exercise when that happens. Understanding should help me work on my goals successfully.

My Goals:
I would like to stay healthy and active and losing some weight would enhance those goals.
My Program:
I love to cook and eat. We enjoy healthy foods and treats sometimes, too. I need to watch portions.
I enjoy a variety of exercises, indoors and out, but even being mainly retired, I have trouble finding time for everything on the "must do" list and the "would like to do" list.
June 6, 2020
Today I am starting a summer program for me to gain strength, recover my flexibility, and work on improving my aerobic abilities:
Strength training 3x a week
Stretching 6x a week
cardio 5x or 6x a week
I have CD's with music to work on all of these exercises. I plan to be exercise on my deck and also to use my driveway and neighborhood to walk and jog.
I'd like to swim again at the pool when open and swim in the lake when it is warm enough.
I am hoping to ride my bike as well.
My husband and dog are good partners for the walking part of this plan. Also, our son and his wife as well as friends join us on walks.
Personal Information:
We enjoy living in a rural setting that is abundant with wildlife. We have mountains, lakes and forests at our doorstep, perfect for walks and hikes and snowshoeing in winter.
Travelling to visit family and friends is fun, too , as well as
having company.
Other Information:
Doing renovations lately to our home is quite creative, but messy, too. The results are great, though, thanks to my husband.
We look forward to gardening this year and hope each year we will get better at it. I love the flowers especially, but also fresh cherries, strawberries, raspberries, herbs and salad ingredients.
