Back to Basics
My name is Melissa. I'm a 48 year old wife, mother, elected official, personal trainer and professional competitive bodybuilder
I have been a member of Sparkpeople for over 6 years (where DOES the time go?) and attribute any success I've had in fitness to this website. I have had the honor of being chosen as a SP Motivator and as a Motivator of the Day by my friends here. It's something I take very seriously and try to live up to every day.

I have had the honor of being chosen as a SP Motivator and as a Motivator of the Day by my friends here. It's something I take very seriously and try to live up to every day.
I'm often told that I'm an inspiration or motivation and while I'm flattered, I'm baffled. I only see my "flaws" and what I still need to work on. The people here on SP are motivators with their stories of triumph over challenges of all types. The goals shouldn't only be about being thinner and looking better -- it should be about the journey toward better health. It's not always the destination but the trip that is enjoyable. Enjoy the process and don't make it drudgery -- it will only make it better for you.
If you have just stumbled across my page -- thanks for stopping by and please add me as a friend -- you can never have enough!
The most important thing to me is the health and happiness of my family and friends. My family is made up of my husband - we have been together for over 26 years - and we have 3 nice, active, smart and handsome boys (we've always told them that NICE had to come first) - Stephen (16); Daniel (13); and Andrew (10). They are good boys and are very active.
My friends are made up of the most supportive, inspirational and incredible men and women that I could ever ask for or imagine to be associated with. I'm so very fortunate to be surrounded by so many supportive people and I thank God every day for sending them to me just when I need them the most.
My hobbies include working out, running, and karate and working out (LOL). I have studied Uechi Ryu Karate for about 5-6 years and am currently working toward my black belt. I sit on the Steward's Council for the dojo as the Steward for Equipment and Public Relations. I voluntarily teach karate to beginning students for a neighboring town as part of their Summer Recreation Program.
When I joined SP in February 2008 my goal then was to run in a 5K Race being held that June. Since then I've run in several more and started a memorial 5K race for charity in my town that continues to grow each year.
I became a competitive bodybuilder in 2009 -- I competed in the Figure Class until the Fall of 2011 when I "hung up my heels" and moved into the Women's Bodybuilding class. I love it!! I love the posing, the workouts, the routines and yes, even the diet . I earned Professional Bodybuilder Status in October 2012. New challenges on the horizon.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. If I don't readily know the answer, I can help you find it.
I wish each of you success in achieving all you aspire to!
