I started 2007 at 303 lbs, smoking and had sleep/general health problems. At (the time) 33 years old, I finally had enough. January 18, 2007 I smoked my last cigarette. Two weeks later I started watching what I was eating, with a ton of help from sparkpeople.

In mid-February I began working out on an elliptical machine. And then things really started to happen. I started losing weight like caRAZY! Little mini-goals, like getting under 290, then 280, etc. helped to keep me motivated to lose weight. I also set little workout goals that took me from "do ANYTHING, just make sure you're moving at least three times a week" to "5 days, 45 minutes a day" also helped.

In March, the weather started to turn and my daily elliptical sessions were losing their appeal. A friend from work offered to run w/me at lunch if I wanted to give it a shot. I took him up, and slowly, oh SO SLOWLY started pounding out the miles. My first "run" was less than a mile, and I weighed like 270ish pounds. No wonder it took me about 2 DAYS to run that mile!!! But once I got going, the weight just kept coming off. Life was good.

Fast forward to today, and I'm currently at 225 lbs and have gotten a bit faster than my original pace, and I can now successfully run as much as 14 miles. I am happy and shamelessly proud of what I've done over the last year. It's been a big change for me, and my family, and many sacrifices were made in this transition.

The new goal for me is 200 lbs. and I want to achieve this by December 2008. I am also planning on running a marathon this year.

My Goals:
Make a healthy eating and workout routine the "norm" in my daily life.

Achieve my goal weight of 220 lbs.

My Program:
Run. A lot. Every day.

Lift weights 2/3 days a week.

Personal Information:
I live in Michigan, am married (5 years) and have 2 children (4 yrs and 2 year). I enjoy sports, reading, and working in the yard.

Ironically, as a child, I was always the skinniest kid around. In high school I struggled with my weight, to GAIN it. Shortly after high school I began to FINALLY put on weight, and it hasn't really ever stopped. I have gone from being the scrawny kid to being the fat one. Now I'm looking to find the happy middle ground, and am dedicated to see it through!

Other Information:
Favorite Book(s) - Don Quixote (Cervantes); East of Eden (Steinbeck);

Favorite Team(s) - All the Detroit pro teams, especially the TIGERS!!! MSU is up there too!

Favorite Quote - "Only the ignorant know true bliss" - anon

Mike -- Good Morning and Greetings from central Indiana!!! Greg here, and just stopping by to say HELLO (& gld I did). One of my short term goals is to visit as many of the SparkPages of members of the different teams that I am on. I try to visit one page per team per day (and, yes, I'm keeping track of the pages I visit; 100+ pages in the first month or so). You are my "SparkMen" visit for today.

Super job with your SparkPage. I really like the SparkPages, and think setting one up is an important step; you have to think about what you want to present, and be willing to put it out there for the world to see/read.

CONGRADS on your weight loss. Must feel great to be almost there. Best of luck on the rest of your weight loss journey, and may God bless youand your family. -- Greg
