August 2020:

What a year 2020 is turning out to be! As I continue to work through the grief from the loss of my husband almost 4 years ago I draw upon a great sense of curiosity about the world around me and also a sense of responsibility towards the welfare of both my family and close friends but also that of the broader community. "Being in the present" is an emotion that I have chosen to embrace and discovering strengths I didn't know I had is very exciting!

And so I have sold the dream home that my DH and I built, left my dearly loved gardens and rural community and have bought and moved into a condo in the seaside community of Eastern Passage. I have a small garden space I am itching to develop ASAP, access to opportunities for outdoor exercise, volunteerism and a choice of nearby universities and libraries for learning. My family, apart from my daughter, is nearby and hopefully if and when COVID has settled a trip to Scotland to see her will be possible again.

My Goals:
-to maintain my goal weight
-challenge my body and mind daily to keep both engaged and healthy
-to share ideas and support with other SP members
- volunteer with the garden committee in my community as we develop a large common space for all residents

My Program:
-weight training 2- 3X weekly, upper and lower body with intensive core work
WALK, WALK AND MORE WALKING: a minimum of 12,000 steps (5+ miles) daily
-total plant based diet
-daily reading and gardening year round
--active exploration of my community, province, country

Personal Information:
I'm a farm kid from Alberta, lived in Ontario for 25 years and have now settled in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. I have two adult children and two grandchildren. A cat and a rescue pooch keep me company.

Other Information:
I love to garden. Crosswords and reading keep me busy when the snow flies. Cooking is also a delight- I'm always looking for new ideas for vegan meals. I am passionate about diet and exercise and firmly believe that we do have the power to keep ourselves healthy by eating well and being active.

I agree... it's a once-a-year spend. Dorothy was here last Christmas, and I agree that it will probably be fall 2021 before I feel safe flying to Amsterdam.

I shopped today for her gift, and got her some herb seeds from Richter, in Uxbridge, which ships world-wide. Also a tea infuser, garlic slicer, crushed lavender for sachets and some essential oils. I made her a pair of embroidered pillowcases and will pick up some kind of pretty Christmas ornament... because she usually spends Christmas in Canada, I don't know if she will have a tree, so probably an ornament to sit on a table.

Thanks for the blog love about the runners. I have mentioned the trap and spay but since I do not live in town (20 miles away) everything I say is discounted. They are always cute but it's a little sad that they are frightened of people.

The flower on my feed is a Plumeria aka Frangipani, used to make Hawaiian leis. I didn't know they'd grow this far north in CA and had never seen a live plant til this one. My cousin in FA has many of different colors in her yard. I only recognized it due to the scent as my dad always had to fly over to HI for the navy and would bring me plumeria perfume each time.
