August 2020:

What a year 2020 is turning out to be! As I continue to work through the grief from the loss of my husband almost 4 years ago I draw upon a great sense of curiosity about the world around me and also a sense of responsibility towards the welfare of both my family and close friends but also that of the broader community. "Being in the present" is an emotion that I have chosen to embrace and discovering strengths I didn't know I had is very exciting!

And so I have sold the dream home that my DH and I built, left my dearly loved gardens and rural community and have bought and moved into a condo in the seaside community of Eastern Passage. I have a small garden space I am itching to develop ASAP, access to opportunities for outdoor exercise, volunteerism and a choice of nearby universities and libraries for learning. My family, apart from my daughter, is nearby and hopefully if and when COVID has settled a trip to Scotland to see her will be possible again.

My Goals:
-to maintain my goal weight
-challenge my body and mind daily to keep both engaged and healthy
-to share ideas and support with other SP members
- volunteer with the garden committee in my community as we develop a large common space for all residents

My Program:
-weight training 2- 3X weekly, upper and lower body with intensive core work
WALK, WALK AND MORE WALKING: a minimum of 12,000 steps (5+ miles) daily
-total plant based diet
-daily reading and gardening year round
--active exploration of my community, province, country

Personal Information:
I'm a farm kid from Alberta, lived in Ontario for 25 years and have now settled in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. I have two adult children and two grandchildren. A cat and a rescue pooch keep me company.

Other Information:
I love to garden. Crosswords and reading keep me busy when the snow flies. Cooking is also a delight- I'm always looking for new ideas for vegan meals. I am passionate about diet and exercise and firmly believe that we do have the power to keep ourselves healthy by eating well and being active.

Thanks Mollie. We are not in the fire zone, just getting the smoke from it off and on. I wish it would rain, but our area is dry as a bone for a long time. They say it will be a dry winter this year. Hope they are wrong!

Hi, we are safe, about 100 miles from the fires, thank you for the birthday wishes, We gave Don a surprise party Saturday, he turned 80, it went real well. emoticon

Mollie, We are safe for now. However, we are facing "very unhealthy" air quality. We can't spend any time outdoors. I have respiratory and heart issues that prohibit it (if I want to remain healthy). Friday, I ran out to the grocery store, but had windows closed in my car, and inside air only for my air conditioning.

Monday it should clear a little, then I believe Tuesday and Wednesday we might get some rain.

The goofball seems to be destroying himself more each week as we head into our election. Let's hope he finds no traction between now and then. Glenn
