I'm hoping to get started on that list of meals I mentioned in my blog the other day. I'm going to reorganize the small binder I keep on the kitchen counter for this purpose. I'll email you what I come up with to get started.

Update: I've been thinking about what I want to do and I'm not going to make a list of meals. I plan my meals for the day each morning. Before heading to the grocery store I plan meals for the next few days. By planning each individual day in the morning, I can take advantage of any leftovers and plan to use produce that is losing its freshness. I did this even before returning to Sparks People, so it's worked well for me. Now, I'm more careful of the foods I eat and I make a real effort to include all the food groups.

I know each meal should include a type of whole grain, a protein, vegetables, fruit, and a dairy. I don't necessarily hit it right each time, but I feel like I get pretty close.

Example of today's breakfast and lunch:

Breakfast - 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup milk, strawberries, sliced almonds and 3/4 cup vegetable juice.

Lunch - 1 slice whole wheat bread, 1 slice provolone cheese, 32 grams of chicken sandwich meat, 27 grams of spinach, 1/4 cup cottage cheese and 109 grams of cantaloupe.

We have frozen pizza every Saturday night. We tend to get the kind that doesn't have any meat, so the calories per serving are reasonable and it's a treat. I'll have some yogurt for dessert to round out the meal.
