Beacon of HOPE
Hi my name is Margaret and I live on Long Island, New York. I am a 60 year old widow who raised 3 children The two oldest are married and each have a son. I am still working full time but I have some serious joint issues(have had one hip replaced and need the other hip and both knees done). I have dieted off and on for 10 years but nothing was ever a long term success. I also have lupus and have been on prednisone many times which did not help my weight loss attempts. My thyroid is under active ...

I have dieted off and on for 10 years but nothing was ever a long term success. I also have lupus and have been on prednisone many times which did not help my weight loss attempts. My thyroid is under active and I am on medication for that as well as arthritis meds. I have resolved that this time I will be able to make the appropriate lifestlye changes to effect a healthy weight but I know I need support and am hoping to get it from the group. I enjoy volunteer work, gardening and I collect lighthouses which are beacons of hope, and safety.
10/28/08 I thought it was about time I updated my journey. I started Sparks the end of July. Reflecting on that I realize in reality that is a short period of time. I have managed to lose 25 pounds and to find support and encouragement here. When I first joined I didn't have any expectations as to how the site would benefit me or even if it would work, after all by this time I was a professional dieter. There aren't many diets I have not tried I only wish I had half the money I spent trying to lose weight I'd be well off lol. I tried nutrisystem, LA weight loss, the south beach diet, the atkins diet, the cabbage diet (that one really stunk). Sure I'd have momentary successes but the minute I varied from the proscribed program on the weight piled with a few extra pounds. Needless to say after years of doing this my once small body was now quite large. Honestly even though I knew I didn't gain the weight in a few weeks I wanted a quick fix. It took me years to finally understand that losing weight and getting healthy is NOT a temporary condition. There is no magic pill or secret diet that will work. Sparks has shown me it is possible with a change of attitude and a committment to a healthy lifestyle to lose the weight. I am down 25 pounds now and I am committed to becoming healthy. Sparks is truly a wonderful site.
