Starting again in so many ways...I started Sparking back in 2008 and did well for over a year - until I got laid off and lost all the structure I had created that kept the momentum going. Working from home has been good in some ways (I love my job), but isolating in others - and easy to slip back into sedentary habits. But I need to make a change - so I'm back here. To rediscover some community, to build some structure and to get my life and health back. Wish me patience, perserverance and gentleness with myself as I try to figure this out...one day at a time.

Original Intro - July 2008

I've been heavy most of my life, but also felt strong and reasonably healthy for most of it as well. Since the birth of my daughter 4-years ago, I've had no personal time and my junk food binging has been out of control. It's just got to stop. So, I'm working really hard on changing eating habits and getting more exercise (and trying to stay hopeful that this time will be different).

Milestones:
*Back into size 16 pants: DONE 2/15/2009 (yeah!)
*lose 10% of my starting weight (198): DONE 5/9/2009
*No longer officially obese (BMI under 30): DONE 4/5/2009
Meet cardio/ST goals 6 weeks out of 8: 6/1/2009?
lose 2nd 10% (178): 10/1/2009?
beyond that - who knows...TBA

It's never too late to start making good choices.

My Goals:
Weight loss mini goals:
- lose 10% (gw: 239)
- lose another 10% (215)
- lose another 10% (194 - officially not obese)
- final goal weight (180?)

general goals:
- exercise regularly (cardio 30 min 5x week)
- strength training 3x week hitting upper/lower/core muscles at least once a wk
- eat well with reasonable treats
- feel fit and strong again
- help my whole family be more active


My Program:
Eat more good food (whole grains, fresh local fruits and veggies, home-cooked meals) and cut the junk (candy bars, donuts, etc) down to a sensible level. Move my body every day.

Specifics, food-wise:
- 5 fruits/veggies/day - every day
- 8 glasses of water/day - every day
- reduce sugary snacks to a couple times/wk (instead of lots of times/day!)

And get some exercise - as many days as possible. I'm tired of feeling like such a sloth.



Personal Information:
I'm Pam. I live in Philadelphia with my 13-year-old daughter and two adopted street cats. We are socialist-leaning, urban-dwelling, mostly vegetarian, local food advocates. I want to be healthy and strong to better enjoy life and see my daughter grow up.
