Hello. My name is Kim, and I live in St. Paul, Minnesota. I am 51 years old and single. I've struggled with my weight for most of my life, and I'm still struggling. But I am a work in progress and learning to love myself as I am now. That's the only way real change can happen. I joined this site in Spring 2007, however I really didn't get involved until Fall 2009 when I joined the BLC(Biggest Loser Challenge). I was pretty active on this site until after my mom died in June 2013. After that I went on insulin and gained weight. In October 2014 I went through REFIT® instructor training to become a certified REFIT® instructor. I honestly had no intention of ever teaching but God had other plans. I started teaching in December 2014 after working on a class playlist for about a month to prepare for an audition at a local studio. REFIT® has become such a huge part of my life something would definitely be missing without it. I also discovered the ketogenic diet a few years ago. I lost about 110 pounds with the combinatiion of diet and REFIT® but at some point I was having issues sleeping and low energy. I knew I was in trouble when I went to RECON last fall and only had energy one day. My blood sugars would shoot up if I didn't eat every hour in the morning. So I gained about 20 pounds since getting back from Texas. After seeing my doctor in December and having her run a battery of tests which all came back normal, I was fed up.So out of desperation I went to a local wellness clinic to see a nutrition therapy practitinoer who had helped several friends feel better. I had gotten to know her from the keto support group I attend at a local keto ice cream and candy shop where she was friends with the owner as was I. So I got some answers from her. The good news is it is all treatable but the bad news it I more than likely have had these issues for many years so it's going to take some time to heal. She put me on a program of supplements. We also discovered during one of my visits that the oral medication I was on for diabetes was causing issues. Instead of lowering blood sugar, I would have to eat quite a bit quite often to keep it from going up. I was also unable to work out hard without my numbers going up. My NTP tested insulin on me and my body liked that so much better. A few weeks ago I stopped taking the oral diabetes meds and started insulin. I was able to go longer without eating once i made the switch. I was also able to work out and instead of raising blood sugar like it did on the oral meds, it lowered it. I was still advised to take it easy on the workouts and go low impact. So I continued with that UNTIL the weekend when our founders were here for training a couple weeks ago. I was so fed up with not being able to go all out. That weekend I decided I was going to go all out and see what would happen. I was tired but honestly it felt great to move like that doing something I love. I think on Saturday of the training my blood sugar would have been too low if I had gotten enough sleep. Since that time I've added Rev & Flow to the mix now that I can exercise again.; I started that last week. Between that and REFIT® I lost 5 inches last week. I'm still tweaking my diet, making sure I get enough protein to prevent muscle and hair loss, enough veggies for digestion, and enough fat to keep me satisfied since I stil have weight to lose and want to work off the bodyfat I still have. Still low energy but some days it's due to low blood sugar. I also discovered by fasting I need less insulin so yesterday I started eating 3 meals a day and skipping the snacks. I'm on 10 units of insulin for now but that's only temporary until I can get off it entirely. Update : 9/13/2019 I went in for a battery of tests last month with my NTP to measure progress since April ,about a month after I started seeing her. Bodyfat is down to 33 percent , lean muscle stayed the sanr, and visceral fat decreased . Adrenals were at a 10 but went to 2 when running in place and also when she tested insulin on me. So I decided to just stop the insulin however she started me on some supplements to help lower blood sugar naturally. So far so good. I've been off insulin about 3 weeks and started eating carnivore a little over a month ago. I've dropped almost a pants size in the last month. I'm getting pretty close to goal .

My Goals:
Reduce the dose of insulin hoping to eliminate it entirely. Also I want to get back to my prior fitness level before the health issues started. And I want to have energy. It will all come together, I just need to be patient and continue working hard.

My Program:
food plan- keto carnivore incorporating whole foods- protein and healthy fat mostly from the meats I eat,. I also do intermittent fasting for 16:8, skipping breakfast and eating a bigger lunch and smaller dinner, making sure to get all my calories and protein in those 2 meals. REFIT dvd's, REFIT On Demand(livestreaming classes, Youtube/REFIT X(for instructors) videos

Hobbies: reading, writing, dancing Became a Certified REFIT Instructor on Oct. 18, 2014, on November 20, 2014, I started teaching at a studio then started at my church. I haven't taught since October 2017 when the class at the church folded. I've since developed health issues resulting in chronic fatigue.

    Kim, your story is inspiring. I am 53 and just went through REFIT certification Saturday in Louisville, KY. Don't know what God will do with it as I knew I just needed to certify and develop personally through challenging myself to learn to cue, do things starting LEFT. My goal is to encourage the ladies around me and although I do that as an avid REFIT fan the last two years, I just felt like I needed to put more skin in the game as I love their philosophy. I was doing Sparkpeople a few years ago and was on and off again. Off completely the last 3.5 years. But have been doing REFIT and/or Rev and Flow for the last almost 2.5 years. I went to my first class 2 days after my dad died and it has helped me find joy in grief. I also empty nested and started into menopause all at the same time. Glad for your leadership and I hope you won't need that insulin anymore soon! As I looked around the certification class I realized I am old enough to be the mom to most of the gals in there. But yay for us who can not only keep up but do all the hard stuff too in our 50's. emoticon

    I'm not sure if you still use this, but I'm happy to find another REFIT® instructor here! I was certified in 2017, but do not have a class yet. I am getting back into focusing on myself now after a rough year and weight gain, but excited for the fresh start! Have an awesome week! emoticon
