Hi, I'm Tracy and welcome to my page...I joined SparkPeople two years ago and within a month, I went downhill physically FAST...I had been diagnosed with Hashimoto's and Hypothyroidism several years ago, but was told by my quack doctor at the time that as long as I took my Levothyroxin, I'd be as normal as anyone else...LIES!!!

Last year, I lost my job because I could no longer keep up with my work load...I was suffering from horrible bouts of depression, gaining weight, exhausted all the time, hurt all over and was having bad memory issues...I didn't even have the strength, energy or mental capacity to realize that it was the Hashis and Hypo causing all of this...It wasn't until mid September of this year that it hit me...I was sitting in my house one night, my husband at work, going through mental hospitals/facilities that my insurance covered because I was going to admit myself for severe depression...I did not feel that I could go through ONE MORE DAY feeling the way I was feeling...I cried over everything, felt like I was worthless, not worth living for any reason...Suddenly, no idea why or how, it hit me that these are symptoms of my disease, I've gone through it before, but never this bad while medicated...Once it came to me, I jumped all over it because that meant there was hope to feel better...

I started doing my research and found out that WOW! So many things have been learned about these diseases since I was diagnosed...I made an appointment with an MD I thought could help me...NOPE! He did a minimum amount of testing and ofcourse my TSH level was out of range (6.67), but he didn't test anything else...He argued that my Levothyroxin, then at 175mcg, needed to be lowered because I was taking an unGodly amount of it...IDIOT! I had to argue with him, but I did get him to increase it to 200 mcg against his better judgement...I knew then it was time to keep looking for my new doctor...

I searched and searched, reading, learning, getting advice...Functional medicine doctor? Endochronologist? Naturopath? I chose an endochronologist in Memphis who is well versed in thyroid disease and how Hashimoto's affects the thyroid and body as a whole...I also accidently found a great MD when I had to get my ankle xrayed this week...He loves working with thyroid patients, is very knowledgeable and tests EVERYTHING, including adrenals, cortisol, vitamin deficiencies, everything...Soooo happy I went to him even though I'm currently in a full boot, heading for an MRI next week and not sure if I'm getting surgery or physical therapy for my AFTL...

In the meantime, on my own, I have gone gluten free, drastically reduced any soy, corn and dairy to reduce inflammation in my gut and joints...Its working, but I was so far gone that I know it'll take a while to really see a difference...I've also started supplements...B12, Calcium, D3, Magnesium, Selenium and a multi-vitamin...I also take a fluid pill to help keep my fluid/swelling down as it is common with this...

As far as exercise, that is my achilles heel...I have not done any real exercise in so long, I feel like my muscles have atrophied. I decided this week, final decision today, that even though I'm in this boot for however long, I am going to start now...I did my first upper arm exercise sets tonight with 5 lb weights...Going to look for some core exercies I can do also that my boot won't interfere with...I REALLY want to do some leg exercises though...My legs are HUGE!!!

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my intro...I still have alot of updating to do because all the info on my page is two years old and not relevant now...I'll get there though...I said today that I need goals and I'm going to get started now...

My Goals:
I have come back to SparkPeople, more knowledgeable about my disease and hypothyroidism to try and lose down to a healthy weight...My heaviest weight was 368 in 2012...I got down to 305 here in 2013, then left after having a thyroid crash...Now, I'm starting out here at 313.8, down from 327 in September of this year...I have a long road ahead of me...Just going to take it one day at a time...

My Program:
I'm completely gluten free now...Dairy, soy and corn are very limited...These changes help reduce the inflammation caused by Hashimoto's...I'm now logging my food choices and watching to see where I need to make adjustments...I can't do much exercise that requires use of my feet right now due to a ligament issue that I'm being treated for...Basically my right foot is in a full boot...I'm going to do upper body and core exercises though until I can get the boot off and clear for exercise on the foot...

Personal Information:
I am from Martin, TN, a small college town in the northwest corner of the state...I'm married to my partner in crime, have a daughter, 3 stepdaughters, 1 stepson, and 5 grandbabies between them all...
