I've been on this journey since August 24, 2007, and I've had both success and failure--mostly failure. So recently I decided to restart the whole program from the beginning. I've had a number of health issues to contend with over the years, and now that they are more or less under control it's time for me to do something just for me. I've struggled with my weight since I was young, like so many others here and for many of the same reasons. This is the year for me to become the best person I can possibly become, and SparkPeople is a large part of that. I believe in personal enrichment and improvement, and that includes all aspects of one's life. We never stop learning. As we get older, much of our learning is about ourselves, and along this journey I've learned a lot about myself. Yet I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn. This journey will last the rest of my life, and I hope to make the most of it.

My Goals:
I want to be at a more manageable weight by my 40th birthday.

I want to get over my addiction to junk food.

I want to eliminate things like high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils from my diet.

My Program:
It's been slow progressing, but I know that as long as I keep going at it I'll succeed. I still have a lot of bad habits to overcome, such as eliminating soda from my diet. But I've found that making small changes on a regular basis is the best way for me to go about the overall lifestyle change. I have stopped eating white bread, and I have switched from low-fat to nonfat milk. Those two small changes have made a world of difference!

Personal Information:
I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am single and have no children. I like to watch documentary programs on TV, particularly channels such as The Science Channel, The National Geographic Channel, and PBS. In 2006 I earned a certificate in gourmet cooking & catering from one of those distance education programs that let you learn at your own pace at home. I love to cook and bake, and I am currently trying to condense all of my recipes into one database on my computer.

Other Information:
I love the Harry Potter series. I have all 7 books, the last 4 being first editions. Other things I like to read include true crime, history, biography, and other nonfiction.

Hi Shari - Just dropping by to say hi and how have you been lately? We had a visit from my sister and her 3 small children. They traveled from Miami, FL and stayed for a week. They kept me very busy and I miss them dearly now. The children are so cute and smart. They kinda wore me out though.
Hope all is well with you. Thank you for being a friend-Leyla

    Hi -

I was looking for a team that deals with SB and found yours. It does not seem too active though. I am wanting to find support for exercise and read the posts. You have some great advice. I will post my intoduction on the team later today. Just wanted to let you know I joined your team.

THANK YOU for your input on the Team Leaders 'Exercise ideas for those with limited mobility' thread!!! I really appreciate all the help I've gotten tonight!

HEY! I was born in SF! Grew up in Concord, Walnut Creek and Atascadero - then at 9 moved all over the world. TOO COOL to 'meet' someone from the SF Bay area online!

Thanks again, and GOOD LUCK on your weight goal!

    Hey Shari!
I apologize for not responding before now. It seems that everything is happening all at once as of this week! My husband(a saint and a R.N.!) met with the surgeon to discuss and schedule surgery for my dialysis access and then Shand's Nephrology Center finally called to schedule my consult for transplant.
I live in the extreme south central Georgia are. It's okay but I so wish that we lived in California! There is so much to do over there! I would be so busy if we lived there! I just spent this past weekend staying up late so that I could watch the webcasts from Coachella this past weekend! It was worth it to see some really great bands especially The Raconteurs!
Thank you for the encouraging words and making me feel so welcomed!
