I've been on this journey since August 24, 2007, and I've had both success and failure--mostly failure. So recently I decided to restart the whole program from the beginning. I've had a number of health issues to contend with over the years, and now that they are more or less under control it's time for me to do something just for me. I've struggled with my weight since I was young, like so many others here and for many of the same reasons. This is the year for me to become the best person I can possibly become, and SparkPeople is a large part of that. I believe in personal enrichment and improvement, and that includes all aspects of one's life. We never stop learning. As we get older, much of our learning is about ourselves, and along this journey I've learned a lot about myself. Yet I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn. This journey will last the rest of my life, and I hope to make the most of it.

My Goals:
I want to be at a more manageable weight by my 40th birthday.

I want to get over my addiction to junk food.

I want to eliminate things like high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils from my diet.

My Program:
It's been slow progressing, but I know that as long as I keep going at it I'll succeed. I still have a lot of bad habits to overcome, such as eliminating soda from my diet. But I've found that making small changes on a regular basis is the best way for me to go about the overall lifestyle change. I have stopped eating white bread, and I have switched from low-fat to nonfat milk. Those two small changes have made a world of difference!

Personal Information:
I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am single and have no children. I like to watch documentary programs on TV, particularly channels such as The Science Channel, The National Geographic Channel, and PBS. In 2006 I earned a certificate in gourmet cooking & catering from one of those distance education programs that let you learn at your own pace at home. I love to cook and bake, and I am currently trying to condense all of my recipes into one database on my computer.

Other Information:
I love the Harry Potter series. I have all 7 books, the last 4 being first editions. Other things I like to read include true crime, history, biography, and other nonfiction.

G'day Shari, just stopped by to say Hi!
I wish I lived closer to you, SF has always been a place I'd love to spent more time in, was there in 1986 for just 3 days, so I could taste all of your gourmet cooking.
Hope you've gone back to gym. I go to mine 5-6 days a week and really enjoy the physical activity.
Wishing you much success in reaching your goal and a healthy lifestyle.

    Hi Shantie
I too like documentary tv programs and CNN is the greatest channel in my opinion. I love to hear other citizens call in and give their comments on public happenings.

There is much support and guidance on Spark People and the more time I spend on here the easier it gets for me to understand nutrition. Which I knew very little about when I joined Spark People

much luck and success with your goals and dreams
