I am a southern California woman. The emphasis of my life is my family, friends, church, and neighbors. I work as an office manager and taking care of my home, dog and garden. I'm committed to finally taking off the weight that keeps me from being what I believe is my healthiest weight. It will be a lifetime of discipline to maintain that weight, but I prefer that to the alternative....pain pills for aging & joint problems along with energy depletion.

I met my goal at the end of September 2011 and have been able to keep the weight off (and then some) despite my inability to exercise as regularly as I would like to. I am prone to a pinched nerve in my neck and over the last 1-1/2 years dealing with the fall-out of that reality has kept me busy trying to overcome the injury (ies) and figure out ways to stay fit without causing problems. Checking in with SparkPeople has helped me to stay faithful & focused.

I discovered that stress keeps my weight low, but when life is not stressful it is more challenging to be what I now understand to be my best weight, 132. I am happy that SparkPeople is a part of my important part in managing this reality.

My Goals:
I haven't been 135 in 10 years. I don't know if it is reasonable at this point...but I want to try.

11/2012: I have been able to maintain my weight loss, and indeed weigh in under 135. I'm happy about that, since this was my natural weight during my late teens, early 20's. Seems right and healthy.

7/2013: I have determined that 132 should be the weight I maintain through proper diet and exercise. I will do my best to live in that knowledge.

My Program:
I track my food...almost all of which is homemade. My husband and I both love to cook. My daughter and her husband are also excellent in the kitchen. So in general, I eat real food, no substitutes of any type and just try to watch the quantities. I aim to work out at the gym 4 times/week...but fatigue or joint problems sometimes interfere.

Personal Information:
I have been with my husband since my senior year of high school. We have a daughter (married) and 2 sons. Our family was blessed with our granddaughter in May 2010.

Other Information:
My father died relatively young, but we were buddies from my earliest memories. He always told me "everything in moderation" and "too much of anything isn't good for you". It's advice that has always made sense to me and wisdom I try to apply.

    Hi Sharon,
Wow, you have really been in the thick of it with that cough. I know others who have been plagued with a similar sounding cough and respiratory thing. It seems to hang on forever! I'm glad you are beginning to feel more like yourself again. Do be careful and don't over do!!! You are a busy woman so that is a tall order.
I am staying very busy too. I do a lot with my grand kids even though the Riverside guys are both in school and don't need me weekly. They are in fun sports and activities that we enjoy attending. The little one in San Diego is 13 months now. I am going to head down there tomorrow. My son called this afternoon and humbly asked if I could watch him as he has a fever and can't go to day care. I love being able to say "absolutely....I'll see you in the morning"! I leave at 4 a.m. when I go down there. It is so much fun.
Chris is doing well after his radiation and all that followed. His P.E.T. scan and blood work a few weeks ago were all clear. Yay. We are so very grateful!
I'm keeping up with my yoga 3 days a week, walking regularly, and doing a bible study once a week.
I just went to jury duty today and my panel was dismissed by the early afternoon. Another blessing. I wouldn't mind serving, but I have babysitting obligations really stacking up through the end of June. The end of the school year is always busy for my teacher kids.

Thanks for the update. I'm sending you prayers for renewed good health. You are definitely an inspiration to me too. Big Hug!!!!!

Ahh yes the butterfly migration. I haven’t seen it for a few years due to the drought. But today I drove to Temecula to meet some friends for lunch and all the way from yucaipa and back masses of butterflies were hitting our cars. It was so sad!!!!

Thank you for checking in, Sharon. You sound wonderful and definitely busy, but in a good way.
I'm trying to continue to be grateful for the rainy, chilly weather since the heat will come soon enough. We have way too many happy weeds around here. My husband has kept up on the tractor work in the fields, but the yards are growing some champion weeds.

Have a wonderful week. My week is shaping up to be very busy and productive.

What wonderful news about Jeff and his wife and their blessing of a beautiful girl.....very soon. I am so very happy for them and for you!
Life is good and as always carries blessings and challenges. Our kids and grands are wonderful. Our oldest son had their first (he's 40) last April. They announced they were pregnant with #2 at Christmas, but lost the baby 2 weeks ago. God is good and they are doing well, considering. So grateful for their 9 month old. Our middle son, wife and 2 grands are doing well. Our grandson is 5 and our granddaughter is almost 8. They grow so fast. I've been babysitting when needed for both families. Our youngest son is still together with his girlfriend and is now head tech programmer at Comic Con. My secret hope is they will marry. We just love her.
Chris was diagnosed with cancer last August after a second surgery on his jaw to remove a tumor. It was isolated (Plasma neo-plasm) but can metastasize into Multiple Myeloma (a bone marrow cancer) so after 25 radiation treatments, he will now be monitored and tested regularly for many years. We are feeling so blessed that it is looking good for his future. As always, God is in charge. So we stay grateful for everything daily.

Thank you for letting me know how you are. You are such a special and loving friend. Can't wait for you to meet your new little granddaughter!
