I lost 30 lbs on Sparkpeople two years ago and was feeling really great about my lifestyle change. I wasn't starving or on any kind of fad diet. Just recording my calories, watching my nutrition, and getting more exercise in. Unfortunately, the weight slowly crept back up and especially in the past year, I have really just let go of all of the healthy habits I worked so hard to pick up. I moved to DC last year and in the flurry of excitement and stress over starting a demanding new job and making new friends, I pushed my health to the side.

So I'm back! I will lose the 30 lbs again and figure out how to better maintain the weight loss so I don't end up having to lose 30 again. I'm 5 weeks in and am feeling great. The holidays are coming up which will be a challenge, but I'm trying to again be realistic about how long it will take to lose the weight the right way and keep it off.

I know that I love to cook and to eat large quantities of food, so I make a lot of vegetable-high dishes that allow me to satisfy my quantity cravings without going over my daily goals. I'm trying to add more power walking and jogging to my days - taking breaks from work to get 3 miles in, etc. because otherwise I spend a lot of time very sedentary at work. I used to at least walk to work but I've since moved and I'm just a little too far for that to work so I take an electric scooter. Great for efficiency, not so great for weight loss. So I keep an extra pair of running shoes, a sweatshirt, and gloves at my office to take those breaks and get some fresh air and exercise in. Then I weekends, I commit to at least one distance walk (6-8 miles).

I know that I can keep my balance of a healthy social life and busy work life without sacrificing my health and I'm re-committed to making that a priority!

My Goals:
I just want to get back to a healthy body and do it the right way. When I was in my early twenties, I would starve myself thin any time I felt like I gained weight. I looked good, but it wasn't the right way to get there. This time, I'm going for the whole healthy lifestyle thing, and I notice it in every aspect of my life. I'm organized, my house is clean, I'm doing well at work, etc. Things feel like they are coming together.

I'm always looking to better myself, to achieve more. Being in the right, healthy mindset is a great place to start.

My Program:
I'm trying to cut down on unnecessary carbs - keeping carbs to fruits and veggies, whole grains, etc. In that same vein, I'm eating a lot of protein - chicken sausage, turkey, pork.

I make a ton of veggies with whatever I cook because I like to eat large quantities and that helps me to not feel like I'm going to run out of food. What a fatty - I'm afraid to run out of food.

Personal Information:
I love singing, writing, music, cooking, baking (trying to keep away from that one) and making sarcastic comments.

I work in STEM education - getting industry leaders involved in how we prepare the future workforce. It's demanding and exciting work.

Other Information:
I really don't like carrots. Seriously. They are gross.

Hey I just wanted to stop by and say I am in the same boat. Lost like 70 lbs and kept it at bay for awhile then slowly gained 35 back by getting lazy and not tracking. Totally my fault. Thank God I was still moving a lot or it would’ve been worse.
