I'm 45, an introvert but not shy, suffer chronic depression, lost 100 pounds in 15 months with Spark (8 years ago), gained it back, trying again! I live in Maryland and hate it. I enjoy playing video games, reading, writing, cooking, amateur nature and macro photography, my German Shepherds, my Standardbred horse and my mule, various crafts, and woodworking. I prefer to be "active" rather than "exercise."

I'm currently a junior earning my BS in Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences, and I am at the point where I've realized in order to reach some of my career goals, I really need to get myself back on track. I'm not getting any younger and I'll be competing with people 20 years younger for positions in the field.

Don't make excuses. Your friends don't need them, and your enemies won't believe you anyway.

    Welcome to the Dawg Haus!

I'm sorry to be so late with my welcome - life tends to sidetrack me sometimes.

Hi Ms Amy, I'm one of the Puppies on the Spirited Underdawgz team and I'm working on reading everyone's pages. By the way Thorn is beautiful!! I'm with you on the reducing alcohol and junk food intake. Those are both major areas of change for me. It is nice to be in the kennel with you!

HI Amy emoticon !!! I am SO GLAD I came here and read your page !! The word "exercising" has a BAD RAP because hey lets face it,,,,,, when many had gym they were TOLD it was "Mandatory as exercise" which sent FEAR THROUGH MANY OF US !!! It DID Me in the 6th grade when I had to climb the rope. IF you DID NOT make it and RING the STUPID BELL ALL the kids would LAUGH ! Oh the so called gym teacher would tell them "not to", but yeah right,,,, not enough. I went home,,,, found a rope in the garage, sung it up over a heavy branch. Than I LEARNED HOW TO CLIMB that STUPID THING !! The follow week when I was told to climb the rope I DID SO !!! The kids were so SHOCKED THEY CLAPPED and CLAPPED ! The gym teacher for ONCE allowed them to continue. After that I KNEW I COULD do ANY THING Physical I wanted.

Now Ame there IS ONE thing I've NOT done that's on my bucket list,,, that YOU DO OFTEN,,, ride a HORSE !! Sparks DOES count horse back riding as exercising,,, see exercising can be such a WIDE variety. Pretty much the rule of thumb is "As long as your heart rate is raised (even though you are very relaxed riding,, your muscles ARE getting a workout which likely is 2nd nature to you so you do not feel them now. Likely you did when you first started to ride,,,, it's continuing, but your muscles are accustomed to it, still they are being worked,,,, and I have NO doubt you do over 10 mins at a time). SO YES it DOES count so if your not counting it, please do. As well as check out the MANY things you do daily,,,wouldn't it be soooo COOL to be a SUPER DAWGGIE ??? Likely you ARE, but haven't been counting all you do. NEAT for you and also it helps the team. Plus when you record it on your exercise tracker,, you encourage others who may see it !!

WOOHOOOO WE ARE OFF the ground now and HEADED TOWARDS EASTER ISLAND !! Want to go for a horseback ride and TEACH ME? I was WAY to heavy so that I KNEW I'd NOT be able to get myself up and likely due to my physical shape still can NOT, but the riding place near me helps with stuff they have. My GD who learned there wants to teach me,,,,, maybe at the same time she does the baby ! He was just born last week,,it's NOT right off ! Awwww babies are sooo ADORABLE ! Of COURSE I WOULD say this and if I did NOT something would be WRONG !

emoticon Being active is exercising in my book - we all do more if we enjoy what we do. Go Dawgs!
