I wasn't always overweight. I wasn't always older than dirt either.

I am a carb addict. There's no getting around it. I have no off button where the consumption of carbohydrates is concerned, especially the sweet and starchy ones.

This got me into a lot of trouble around the time Susan Powter started making all her noise. That's when the yo-yoing began. And that's when I embarked upon my steady progression to twice the weight I was before I got it into my head to be "healthy."

Once every year or two, I take it upon myself to virtually starve myself in anticipation of a trip, or a cruise, or an event. And I do generally manage to get to where I want to be. A week later, I'm carb-loading like nobody's business, and three months later, I weigh more than I did when I started. Rinse, lather, repeat, times decades.

Fast forward to 2017 and my diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. I am now insulin-resistant, and those carbs I love so much could very well kill me. Fortunately, I've read a lot, and I know the stuff the ADA does in bed with Big Pharma is still illegal in some States, and oughtta be in all of them. I'm not falling for it. Instead, I'm following the guidance of Dr. Richard Bernstein, himself a diabetic, and following his LCHF diet to get my diabetes under control. So far, so good. My numbers are getting better.

The beat goes on!

My Goals:
1. Normalize my blood sugars and related lab values.

2. Reach a normal BMI and then stay there.

3. Become and remain physically fit.

My Program:
LCHF with macros as follows:
A maximum of 20 grams of carbs a day, with carbs comprising 5% of my intake, protein 15%, and fats 80%. This differs somewhat from the standard keto diet, as diabetics also need to be aware that too much protein can lead to glucogenesis.

Personal Information:
Sister, mother, grandmother, wife, friend, wedding officiant, big mouthed Libertarian, envelope-pusher, and lover of critters and naps. Coffee, karaoke, and cruises are good too. That about covers it.

Other Information:
Older than dirt. Army Brat. Army Wife. German and Italian. Like my silver hair. Like my silver fox husband. Like Minnesota when it's not snowing and forty below.

I'm back -- sort of. Read my newest blog entry as to what is going on... Feeling a little wishy washy about this. I should be more motivated knowing what has happened to both Allen and Terry - and I am THAT age....

Welcome to SP and MN fat to Fit! I know where Ham Lake is!!! I grew up out in Forest Lake! Just take One day at a time. Take baby steps and you will reach your goal. Sorry to hear that it was your hubby's heart attack that brought you here, but then again, that may have been the best thing to happen to the both of you. Stuff like that is definitely a wake up call. Good luck! Let me know if you need anything.
