I want to grow old with my husband and have fun and be active the whole time. He has been a great motivator for me to get in shape.

I am in maintenance. It's not the goal weight that I set at the beginning of the journey, but it is what I can maintain and feel healthy. When I started, I didn't think I'd be working with a trainer 3 days/week as long as I have (18 months as of writing.) I look great. I am incredibly strong. I'm out of pain most days. If I manage to lose a few more pounds, I'm fine with that. I'm no longer stressing it. My trainer keeps telling me that I'm in the healthy range for body fat/lean muscle mass and I'm getting close to the athletic range. I can't argue with that. My new goal is to be competitive in the NJ State Triathlon in July 2017. Not sure I'll make it given my injuries, but I'm trying. Stay tuned, Sparkers. (May 2017)

I am close to my goal weight. I have recovered from a debilitating back injury and now I am stronger and more fit than I ever was. However, the pain of that injury and the many, many months of working with a physical therapist, physical trainer and registered dietitian has taught me a strong lesson in not ignoring pain and taking care of the body that I am blessed to have. I will never again take for granted my ability to walk. (Sept. 2016)

Alas, I have fallen prey to the perils of arthritis and back injury. This has resulted in more than a year of reduced activity for me and significant weight gain. I am very frustrated and scared of a lifetime of obesity and pain. So I am embarking on a commitment to intense physical therapy and training coupled with nutrition counseling to lose the weight that is making my pain worse. My husband is right by my side doing whatever he can to make this work. I am counting on my spark friends to be there, too. There is no place like SparkPeople for support and motivation. I have never been so successful with roses before. One rose has been sitting out there for years doing nothing. Then one year one yellow rose bloomed. The next year three bloomed. Now it blooms two to four blooms and then blooms some more. Once I get everything done like I want I will post some pics. My yard went years without my hand. My husband thinks just mowing is all that needs to be done. I could walk very little and standing beyond 1 minute was out of the question for several years. Now that I am on my feet again I have been going out and working everything over again. It is shaping up. I love working in the yard. My Knock-Out Roses are about to bloom. I would say in a few days I should see results. As for the basil, I used dried for all these years. One day about two months ago I bought it fresh at the grocery. I made a pesto. I cooked Rotini and shrimp and tossed it in the pesto. We loved it. Nothing like fresh basil. I hope the two tomato chippings I planted take off, so we will have three patio tomato plants to pick. I will make sauce with it if they bare good. This takes me back when I was growing up on a small farm. We all had to work. The gardens were fun to me. I love putting my hands in the soil and planting. I love weeding and babying the plants. Of course Chaos has his nose in everything that I do. I have to get onto to him, if I am using bug spray on the roses or weed killer on the rocks between the patio blocks. He gets right in the way. lol He is like having a three year old. He like for me to sit on the steps with him and talk to him. He will lay his head on my lap for me to pet his head and ears. He just rolls those big blue eyes up at me. I love him to pieces. He doesn't bother any of my plants, unless I am working in them. He will stick his nose around to see what is so important that I am working in them. lol He likes the chimes when they ring. He is fascinated with them. He is so much company and a great companion to my husband and myself. We just love him. He is 12 years old now. So we really worry about his age. We lost our other two dogs at the age of 12. He has knee and hip problems. Sometimes he will let us know when he has walked enough. So we have bought a wagon. We hope we can train him to sit in it and ride around. If we can accomplish it we will take the wagon with us when we walk. If Chaos has a problem with enduring the walk we will just put him in the wagon and keep walking. Well I didn't mean to talk so much. You are very easy to talk, too. Do well in the race.

I will be praying for the LORD to give you the strength and endurance to swim beyond 18 laps. You can do this. Memorize a scripture that will help you as you swim. Quote it in your head over and over as you swim. I hope you do really well tomorrow. Of course I know you will. You are a winner.
