I'm brand new to this site, but wish that I had found it sooner. I decided to lose some weight last August (2009), so I have been working on that for about a year. My daughter told me about this site, and I think it will be very helpful in the year to come.
I was getting ready to turn 60 when I started my diet plan. I love activities like yoga and gardening that require a lot of bending, and my weight was getting in the way. My initial goal was to lose 44.5 lbs. Since I am a very small boned person and not quite 5 feet tall, this amount of extra weight was really impacting my health. I decided to give myself a year to meet this goal. My year will be up August 17 and I still have 12 or 13 lbs (depending on the day) to go. I may also choose to lose an additional 5 lbs, depending on how I feel when I make my goal.
I hope to use this site for my second year of dieting, which I will begin after my doctor appointment on August 18. l feel encouraged by what I have lost, even though I fell a little short of my initial goal. My new goals will include eliminating all unnatural food from my diet. I used Splenda, etc most of the first year. I have eliminated those "diet " foods, so my new plan must factor in a little honey and raw sugar. I will also include trying to improve my cardio fitness, probably by walking more. I am blessed with flexibility, but not stamina. I do 3 yoga classes weekly, but cannot walk more than 40 minutes at a moderate speed.
The tools on this site are great.The nutrition tracker will help me balance my diet. I eat lots of whole grains and fresh fruit and vegetables, but I may not be getting enough protein, due to not eating much meat. Right now I am using the tools to observe and plan for year 2. Once I get all my regular foods and recipes added into my "favorites" tracking will take less time.
