I'm a yo-yo dieter, sweet-lover, fat child, fat teen, fat adult and emotional eater. My highest weight was nearly 270 pounds; my lowest adult weight was around 150 pounds. I once did the math and determined I have spent over 90% of my adult life as overweight/obese. I have done calorie counting, Weight Watchers, exercise, and MediFast (keto-lite before keto got popular), all of which succeed as long as I am on the program and fail as soon as I slip up and fall off - which happened often.

On May 2, 2018, a friend of mine made a Facebook group to give those of us interested healthy accountability, and that was Day 1 of my saying "I am done with the unhealthy life I am living". I was 235 pounds.

Over the next couple of months, my weight loss was minor (roughly 8 - 10 pounds in 2 months), even though I was trying to lose weight before a doctor's appointment in September and on a work weight loss challenge. I preferred to up my exercise than to watch what I was eating too much. Then my roommate/sibling who happens to be a fantastic chef joined me, and suddenly the weight was falling off.

I am now resting in the 180's; I'd love to lose more weight, but right now, my biggest goal is to keep this weight OFF for GOOD. After spending so much of my life fat:

+ I am done with hovering in the 200+.
+ I am done living my life uncomfortable in my own body.
+ I am done with getting winded after the slightest physical movement.
+ I am done being scared of dying from a heart attack.
+ I am done being scared of dying from sleep apnea.
+ I am done having trouble finding clothes that fit my body.
+ I am done with feeling ugly and disgusting in my body.
+ I am done feeling like a stranger in my body.
+ I am done being unable to do the things I love (such as spin class and running).
+ I am done with food controlling me.
+ I am done with worrying if the heart attacks and strokes that have taken my other family members will do the same to me.

I believe Kate Moss made the saying "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" popular in the 90's; today my motto is "Nothing tastes as good as being alive feels". There is no food that is worth sacrificing my heart health - If I never get a chance to eat another donut, as long as I'm running and living my life, it's a well-worth sacrifice!

It cannot measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, possibility, strength, or love. Don't give the scale more power than it has earned. Take note of the number, then get off the scale and live your life. You are beautiful! -Steve Maraboli

Isn't it silly to let an inanimate object determine how happy you'll be today?

I saw a comment about the basics you made on Jeanknee’s blog and just wanted to say, “Hear! Hear!”

I not only loved to eat the Christmas cookies I baked, I used to eat a fair amount of the dough while mixing. Ugh. I don't go there any more. It's just me and my husband, no kids, thus no grandkids, either, and he doesn't have a major sweet tooth.

Right now I am debating whether or not to toss a too large container of soy ice cream that I bought for the holidays. I think I'll save a couple of portions for the two of us and toss the rest. It took me a while to break bad habits, don't want to revisit that.

    Have a nice Thanksgiving!
