Hi, I'm Valerie from Portland, OR. The quick low-down on me is that I'm a mom, a wife, a quilter, and a martial artist. And most recently, I've also become a runner! Quite an interesting combination, don't you think? LOL!

My journey with SparkPeople has been an amazing one. When I started, I was about 40 pounds heavier than I should have been. Two young children and a lack of understanding of my bad eating habits left me overweight, out of energy, and wondering what had happened to me.

About 4 or 5 years ago, I decided something had to change. That I was doing something wrong. After all, I was taking Taekwondo classes and exercising 3-5 times a week. There was no reason I should still be overweight! Or was there? I finally realized that all the exercise in the world won't help you unless you are also eating right. If calories in is greater than calories out, you're in trouble.

With the help of SparkPeople's nutrition tracker, I began to watch my food intake. What a wake up call this was! It's so easy to underestimate the number of calories in food. Now that I have a better understanding, I'm confident that going forward I can maintain my weight and my health.

I think even worse, from his diatribes, alluded to -- not to mention calling the other owners FRAT boys (and they're a wee bit older than I am), he has MAJOR inferiority complex. So, I guess women belong in the home AND a smart woman in the workplace????? That must REALLY frost his danglies.

    Thank you so much, really.

I told Carla, my MOTHER and Brother are pushing me to actively go after it (call back since I forgot to get an appointed time to talk to them again) and send the thank you card and all.

My foster sister is a little more supportive though you could hear it in her voice, she was disappointed that I didn't want to take it.

My ex-super called it a rough spot and I spoke to one of my advisors (in the biz) and he was like, 'erm...if you didn't have a job, you'd HAVE to take it but I agree, this doesn't sound like a good place.'

I haven't spoken to the other 2 biz/ advisors yet but basically, I'm being told 'shut up and say yes, please to the money.'

I get it. I just like...when I think of it, my chest feels a crushing in feeling. That cannot be good.

    Weird, huh?

It's a bit usual for my family. Before I was born, the Mamas conferred and decided I should marry either of 2 sons of the country lawyer. He was a professional (and his sons would go to law school and be professionals) and I was the youngest (little worth there) daughter (little worth there) of a 'first family.'

    It's like olden times!!!

Neither son ever married and they both sort of claim me STILL!!!

Of course I never married, though not completely rules out but couldn't be anybody from here. Goodness!

Anyway, weird but not without practice as being me.

I like these goofy things but I honestly think MAYBE they're made for a younger generation than to that which I belong ;p
