I''m Teresa and I turned 50 this year. I''ve been married to Brad, my high school sweetheart, for 20 years, though we actually started dating back in 1982. We have 4 children: Zach, 25 yo; Jake, 20yo; Katie, 117 yo; and Lily, 13 yo. In 2001, things were great. I had just quit smoking. I''d rediscovered a love of running and was training to run a 5K race with my son. On Thanksgiving Day we found out we were pregnant. I was a size 4. ;-) All was right with the world. In December, Brad was diagnosed with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia and started a brutal round of chemotherapy and hospital stays to try beat the cancer. In July, Lily was born. Shortly after her birth, I went into congestive heart failure and was diagnosed with Peripartum Cardiomyopathy. My heart had enlarged and it wasn''t able to pump blood properly. Both conditions are often fatal, but Brad and I beat the odds. He''s been in remission for more than nine years and after four years of impaired heart function, my heart is healing and slowly returning to normal. To celebrate, Brad and I trained to run a mini-marathon in May 2006 on our 11th anniversary. (We did it!) Unfortunately due to injury and real-world stuff getting in the way, we''ve let our running program slide. We didn''t run the Mini the last couple of years and neither of us has been running or working out consistently at all for the past two and a half years. We are trying to make changes that will lead to a healthier lifestyle for our family. Nutrition and exercise that can become a part of our lives and not something that seems like "work."

My Goals:
My goal is to create a more healthy lifestyle for myself and for my family.

My Program:
I've started The Fast Metabolism Diet and so far am a huge fan. Planning to run another half marathon this fall after a couple of years with no steady running. Hoping to broaden my exercise routine by taking a few classes and meeting new people who share my healthy lifestyle. We are trying to eat clean and have cut out most processed foods and increased our intake of veggies and fruit. Very happy to report that I've also cut out all caffeine.

Personal Information:
My name is Teresa. I am a stay-at-home mom who has four children, ages 11 yo to 23 yo.) I'm married to my high school sweetheart and senior prom date. :-)

Other Information:
"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired. When you were younger the mind could make you dance all night, and the body was never tired...You''ve always got to make the mind take over and keep going."

    Kalimera from Athens,
I must say we have to appologies to the entire world for having a so good weather. The challenge here is polution and people who make any effort they can to add to this horrible situation. Some of us try to find healthier choise to move arround town and to enjoy what nature offers to us. Biking, hicking, walking and go to swimm are part of this plan. I'm very happy to have a contact with people like you, who has a positive attitude about life and the problems to overcome. I had problems too with my health and thing that those tough situtations are made for US and not for SOMEONE ELSE. Thank your for your comments to my sparkpage I wish you a lot to your efforts and healthy choises you try to establish for you and your family. :-)
