Update 9/5/18: I am now 60 years old. I lost 55 lbs last year through a combination of daily exercise and WW. My A1C dropped to normal levels and I no longer take diabetes medication. As of today, I have gained back 45 of those lbs. I have seen both my A1C and FBS (Fasting Blood Sugar) rise. If I don't do something, I will be back on medication soon. I am committing to daily exercise. I will also be mindful of what I eat and track it on SparkPeople.

1/12/11: I had knee replacement surgery on 12/15/10. My recovery is going well. I will continue to take weight off so this knee will last as long as possible and so that my other knee replacement will be easier (now that I know what to expect). We did take our trip to Spain in September and had a very good time.

Start Date: I am 50+ years old. Arthritis limits my mobility. I am planning a 30th wedding anniversary trip to Spain in September 2010, and would like to be able to do some walking without too much pain.

My Goals:
I want to average a weight loss of 2 lbs per week this year through a healthy lifestyle. This would create many "pluses" in my life (including the satisfaction of losing over 100 lbs in one year; having a BMI in the normal range; no diabetes; no high blood pressure; less pain).

My Program:
I will record all my food in SparkPeople. I will make exercise a daily occurrence.

    I know you like analogies ... here's one I like that talks about getting discouraged:

    "Imagine you are driving down a street where there
    are lots of parked cars. You make a slight error in judgment
    and hit one. Would you say to yourself, “Oh no! I
    hit a car. Oh well, I might as well just go ahead and hit
    all of them now,” as you continue plowing into one
    vehicle after another. Of course not. You would stop,
    assess the situation and get the information you need
    to repair the damage. You would go on with your life
    having learned a lesson to drive more carefully and not
    hit parked cars! When we have a set back we need to
    learn from it and move on!"

    No more plowing into all the cars for either of us :)
