UMass Amherst Library and Old Chapel. :) Snowy lunch time walk with my reminder of the Fair Isle - a Connemara marble shamrock. :)St Patrick's day 10k time!!!Finished my first 10k!Short and slow, but complete. Ran the whole time... Now to get back to the level I was at before the winter...Definitely needed this today. Umass Dash N Dine 5K complete! Final time: 38:06.Clearly they mapped the route out better last year, but I beat my pace too!Found this today, still on my original vision board - a magnetic poetry magnet board, with the magnets "you can do it"
I may have taken a few detours along the way, but almost 6 years later, I'm closer than ever!Post color run with fiancé, his brother and SIL, and 2 of my bridesmaids!Post color run with fiancé, his brother and SIL, and 2 of my bridesmaids!Slower run this year BUT ran with a group - it was my friends first time fully running 3 miles! Totally worth being by her side for that and taking the slower pace!Day 1 of half marathon training! 3 miles in 44ish min. Took so much effort to run slow! (Target pace was 17:32... Slowest I could manage was around 14:30). Super active day! Yay!!!Day 2 of half marathon training complete! 4.5 miles straight - all the traffic lights synced up today! Going slow was a little easier than yesterday, but still took effort. Day 3 of half marathon training. Embracing the rest day and doing some cleaning. May go for a short walk later on tonight. Still need to make sure I hit my 10,000+ steps a day!Day 4 of half marathon training. Got super busy today and had to skip the 3 mile run. I will do it tomorrow AM. I did walk to and from work today, so that helped the step count - 2.2 miles each way!Day 5 of half marathon training! Completed yesterday's missed run. 3 miles, still slow (or trying at least). First time in a long time running midday and I remembered why I don't do it - super hot and sunny - glad I had my rad shades on!Day 6 of half marathon training. Bit of a late run, but I did it! Faster but comfortable. Made sure I wore my nighttime safety equipment!Day 7 of half marathon training. A rest day for running, but walked to and from work, as well as on my lunch break! Those steps add up!Day 8 of half marathon training. The air was thick with heat, humidity and pollen but I pushed through. Apparently a little bit faster than I should have. Oops. Day 9 of half marathon training. Super proud of this run - I kept my pace steady throughout and was able to "sprint" the last half mile at a pace of 10:59. I was hoping to get under the one hour mark - missed it by 6 seconds!Day 10 of half marathon training. Not bad for a rest day. Walked to and from work (stopping downtown for a couple of hours), as well as on my lunch break!Day 11 of half marathon training. The plan was 4.5 miles from the department picnic home, but I had to run back to campus first because I forgot my key! Total 5.65 miles with one 3 minute "stop" and one short 2 minute walk. Day 12 of half marathon training! Rest day! Spent the day in the company of good friends. Still reached my goal of 10000 steps!Day 13 of half marathon training. Logging an unexpected rest day. Went to the flea market early in the day and underestimated how hot it would be. Dehydration + running = no good, so spending time in and recovering. Day 14 of half marathon training. (Forgot to post yesterday). A rest day, but walked to and from work and on my break! Forgot to turn my run keeper off when I got home so the time's a little off. Oops. Day 15 of half marathon training. Finally managed a slower run. Feeling good after not wanting to do ANYTHING today (you know, the whole getting up and going to work thing). Day 16 of half marathon training! Ran my fastest ever 4.5 miler! Also passed a couple of new runners. They were struggling, but the smiles they gave me when they ran by were full of pride. Gave me the boost I needed to get over the last hill. White bean spinach tacos on homemade tortillas. Mmmmmm. Came across these lovelies on my lunch break walk. Day 17 of half marathon training. Rest day for running, but did the usual walk to and from campus. Lunch walk was a little short... Forgot my headphones so ended up walking a little slower. Day 18 of half marathon training. Had an unexpected rest day, as I felt queasy all afternoon. It was solved by a dinner of wheat bagel, ginger ale and celery. May do this run tomorrow instead if I have the time. Day 19 of half marathon training. Went to a sheep and wool festival, then walked downtown in the evening. Manages over 12,000 steps!Day 20 of half marathon training. Another unexpected rest day - the day somehow got away from us. Still met my step goal though!Day 21 of half marathon training. It was... A run. Hot, humid... Ran out of water and had to cut it .25 miles short. But at least I didn't talk myself out of this one... 5 rest days in a row would have been bad. Day 22 of half marathon training. Another rest day. :( did play an hour or so of disc golf and went for a walk. Not the same as a run, but something at least. Back on track tomorrow!Day 23 of half marathon training. Yet another unexpected rest day... Stupid thunderstorms. Day 24 of half marathon training. Another day of no running due to more thunderstorms. Any other day I would go back downstairs and get that last flight of stairs, but my knees are not doing stairs today. Day 25 of half marathon training. Walked to and from campus today (since we missed it yesterday), so no run.Day 26 of half marathon training. (Forgot to posted yesterday) Babysat fiance's niece and nephew last minute. Not too shabby, but no run. Day 27 of half marathon training. Woke up with a headache I couldn't kick until after 5pm. Will do today's run tomorrow (assuming there's no thunderstorms)Day 28 of half marathon training. Longest duration and farthest distance. :) super proud!Day 29 of half marathon training. Not bad for a rest day. Knees were acting up a bit, but doing better now. Day 30 of half marathon training! If you told me 30 days ago that I'd be running 6.5 miles in under 1:30:00, I would have laughed. Day 31 of half marathon training. Not bad for a rest day! Walked to and from work, and on my 45 minute lunch break. Also had a bridal event at Bed Bath and Beyond and racked up another 3000 or so steps. Day 32 of half marathon training. A rest day. Went on my 45 minute lunch walk, but wasn't feeling anything else. Ended up dancing for about 30 minutes in the evening. Day 33 of half marathon training. I did not want to this run. At all. But I couldn't come up with a good enough excuse. So out I went. Turns out "it's too hot and muggy" would have been a good one. But it's done, so yay. Watched this movie last night. Recommended for people who want to know the truth about meat production. NOT recommended for people who are meat eaters and wish to stay that way. Definitely an eye opener. (Available on Netflix)Day 34 of half marathon training. 8.5 miles. I was so happy to be home I forgot to take a picture. So instead, the number of steps to run 8.5 miles. Final step count for yesterday! (8.5 miler run and grocery shopping at 3 different stores) Day 35 of half marathon training. Walked to and from work, as is my usual rest day routine. Sure felt good after the long run yesterday. Day 36 of half marathon training. This was supposed to be a slow run but I wanted to get it done before the rain came around again. Ended up outrunning the rain and my best pace for this distance. Day 37 of half marathon training. Discovered a slight pain in my knee on my lunch walk and figured resting it would be a good idea. Did a whole bunch of dishes instead. First CSA pickup was today! Hard to see it all, but we got: strawberries, peas, cilantro, radishes, turnips, kohlrabi, Bok choy, kale, rainbow chard, lettuce mix, mustard greens, and spinach. We had the lettuce and mustard greens for dinner with radishes, turnips and carrots. It tasted like sunshine, happiness and love. Summer is officially here and our farmer is our hero. Day 38 of half marathon training (yesterday). I was so excited about the farm fresh veggies I completely forgot to post this. It was a running rest day. Day 39 of half marathon training. Another planned rest day. Walked on my lunch break and kept my meals healthy and veggie filled. Day 49 of half marathon training. (Yesterday). Spent the day traveling and at fiance's nephew's 5th bday party. Great day!Day 41 of half marathon training. It was too hot and humid to do the 6.5 miler today, so we settled on a 3.6 mile walk. Will do today's run tomorrow. Day 42 of half marathon training. Had a minor panic moment yesterday when I realized this training program was doing NOTHING for weight loss. I slept on it and organized myself a new plan. Goes into action today! Will be doing 2 days a week with current plan (straight runs) and 2 days a week with interval training. Day 43 of half marathon training. Still in re-evaluation mode. Starting up fresh tomorrow with a walk to and from work day. Days 44-49. I met all my step goals, but didn't run at all :( motivation was gone, but it's back now!Day 50 of half marathon training. Not bad for 94% humidity and 0 air movement. And all before 8am. I had to follow this one up with a Gatorade (which I general only use for 6+ mile runs). Day 51 of half marathon training. Completely forgot our plan to walk to work. Oops. Day 52 of half marathon training. Not quite what I had planned, but better than nothing. Short run to a local wooded area for some trail running with fiancé. Farm freggie breakfast! All the freggies are from our csa - picked the raspberries, strawberries and peas ourselves. Our farmer picked the kale and carrots. We love color runs!Farm fresh peas. Picked and shelled by yours truly. A perfect movie snack. Homemade. Why eat the oil laden stuff at the mall when you can make these? #nofilter Fiancé made dinner. Homemade veggie stock, beets, carrots, onions, chard, and noodles topped with fresh dill and basil. #nofilterWe made more pretzels. 😠Maybe if we make them often enough I won't be tempted eat the whole batch at once...Dinner. Homemade tortillas filled with: raw zucchini, summer squash and onion, and steamed kale, cabbage and onion. Topped with a bit of cheese, homemade hot peppers and hot sauce. Sooooooo good. Dessert! Grilled pineapple and peaches, strawberries and vanilla ice cream!2 years ago and today. Good reminder this morning of how far I've come. Saturday's farmers market pickup - 2 dozen blue eggs, pink oyster mushrooms, and shiitake mushrooms. Canning/drying/preserving season is in full swing!Red quinoa, golden and red beets, green beans, onions and kale with ginger miso sauce. Who says vegetarian is boring?!I've lost count and track of my half marathon training plan. I've only run 3 times since my last half marathon post. One of these days I'll pick it up again- my priorities right now are nutrition (just switched to vegetarian and am still learning things) and organization of my home. Hard work pays off! Don't let plateaus get to you! After 8 months, the scale is finally moving. Things like this always serve as a reminder to not give up!Woot! 1000 activities (run, walk, hike, bike) tracked (I missed a couple walks here and there) since May 2013!Got a little fancy with the sriracha... Homemade quinoa, kale and onion bowls with shredded carrots, tamari almonds, raisins, and ginger Nama shoyu sauce. This is my favorite way to eat - whole, real ingredients enjoyed with good friends. Super farm fresh! Lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, cucumber and peppers from our CSA. Corn from a farmstand down the street! It doesn't get better than this (except for the homemade sriracha/apple cider vinaigrette for the salad). 8-17-15. Day 1 of faster 5k training. Here's how it compared to my very first "run". C25K Week 1 Day 1. Then: 181 lbs. Now: 137 lbs.8-18-15. Day 2 of faster 5k training. 3 mile "jog". Good news: I was able to run faster than the program wanted me to. I can still run 3 miles. Bad news: It felt like forever. I still hurt. Day 1. Short-ish but a little faster than I expected. Have 2 min/a mile to get back to where I was as the beginning of the summer. But gotta restart somewhere. Also, how many day 1s is this now? Maybe it will stick this time. Day 2. Rest day, but walked on my lunch break, even though it felt like it was a thousand degrees out. Day 3. Shorter, mostly because I got out the door later. Not bad for 95% humidity and no air movement. Homemade sungold tomato sauce topped with sungold tomatoes, home dried basil and home dried crushed red pepper. Can't get any fresher than this - the tomatoes were picked 4 hrs ago! Before photo. October 2012. We were both at our highest weights when this was taken. In progress: Most recent (good) photo of us. We've come a long way!Homemade ratatouille and rustic French bread! So yummy!I always forget how much I love the feeling I get after I run.Not bad considering I had no energy for the second half. My target pace was 12:50. Earned this bad boy yesterday!!!First dance as husband and wife 10-31-15
First dinner out as Mr and Mrs at our favorite veg-friendly restaurant!Fitbit upgrade! Hubby got his from my mom as a birthday present last week and I picked mine up yesterday!New kayanos! Wish the colors came through properly though. they're a beautiful mint green and hot pink. It's been awhile since I've gotten all greens! So excited to be back on track and heading the right way!Ran/walked home from work today. Wanted to run the whole way, but my knee started acting up so I switched to walking. Included are a post-workout photo and my final step count for the day. Back at it! Day 1 complete!Good run for a snowy morning!Day 1. Starting up with running again. Taking it slow so I don't burn out. .5 mile jog with hubby and the puppy. Day 4. Had two rest days then followed up with another .5 mile run. This one was a bit slower because the pup was getting distracted. Had to run back and forth several times because she refused to go past a certain house. Restarted the C25K program on Wednesday. It's a little discouraging that I'm back to Day 1, but now I know I can do it! Just gotta push through and do it regularly!Out geocaching! July '09Another Geocaching trip. July '09Aren't we cute?
