5k in 42 minutes

So I was pondering my progress this morning after discussing my readiness to do a 5k with ANDALEX.
It is hard to track my progress. Especially since I really love the elliptical machine. And lets face it, that is so much easier than actual running. I have done 5k on that in 33 minutes. And I've been capping out my time at 40 minutes on the treadmill. SO I had not reached or even tried to reach 5k yet.
So I did something I had not been brave enough to do yet.
I went outside, to the park and pushed myself through a distance of 5k. I did not look at a clock. I did not count how long my running bursts were and how long the walk breaks were. I only looked at the distance, the mile markers and my lungs my only pacesetters.
I just went. Outside on pavement, no treadmill to keep my pace for me, the sun beating down, just the barest hit of a breeze helping out. There were a couple of points were I pushed a little to much and almost started wheezing, so I backed it down. It is so hard to know what is too much and what is nudging your limits in the good way. (note to self, try to get heart rate monitor)
So I noted the time I started and only when I finished did I peak at the clock.
42 minutes. I have no idea how good or bad this is. I have no basis for comparison. But on my own behalf I feel a bit proud.

    just for your own tracking purposes, that's an average of 13:13 per mile. good for you! i'm so proud of you! i can't wait to run a 5k together. clearly, you're ready :)
