February Update

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Here we go:

Steve had his 3rd total hip replacement in the end of January. His 2nd hip replacement from Feb. of 07 didn't work so he had a revision and is doing really well.

Shelby had a sedated MRI to see if she has Arnold Chiari Malformation which she does not. However, specialists are still looking at her MRI and trying to figure out the reason for her extreme heat sensitivity and intermittent incontinence issues and they think it's all related to her hydrocephalus. She doesn't have a shunt - apparently it's not severe enough for one. We were sent diapers for her to try out for the next round of when she has a week or two of daily accidents. I was hoping pull ups would be covered because of a)the stigma of diapers and she knows she's not a "baby" as she says and b) diapers are sooooo hard to put on her when I'm in a public restroom since she can't sit/stand/etc. on her own. Her eyes are getting worse so we have a new prescription we're waiting to come in.

Shane had an ADHD appointment eval where the doctor gave us some good suggestions.

My mom's house sold. We bought a house. We were supposed to have keys for our new house Feb. 17 and planned for the moving truck to come on Feb. 27 to give us 10 days for some big projects, the main one being completely gutting out Shelby's bathroom and making it completely accessible for her. We'll be lucky if we get the keys tomorrow (Thursday the 26th) after what the realtor calls a "comedy of errors..." Because of this delay, we've had to tell numerous people to reschedule from the bathroom guy to another handy man type of guy to multiple delivery people... Because Steve's still recovering and Shelby's Shelby, it's been me packing everything and doing my "normal" which is all the cooking, cleaning, chores, errands, homework, bathing Shelby, talking the 3 dogs on their daily walks...etc.

This Friday is the 6 month anniversary of my mom's death. Throughout the past 6 months, I've done multiple surprises for Steve (sent him and 4 other people to see his favorite football team play a game, bought him a new computer for his World of Warcraft game he plays, bought him a big screen tv for the new house, etc.) and he never once bought me anything...to say I'm sorry about your mom or we've been paycheck to paycheck for so long, here's the ____ you've always wanted...etc. So, earlier he asked me what I was doing on Craigslist to which I responded I was looking at Personal Trainers and he asked well how are we going to afford that? To which I told him, if I could find the money for everything I've done for him, I think it's only fair if I use about the same amount for something for me...thus me looking at pt's to help get me back on track once we're at the new house and I'll actually have an exercise room.

The kids are still in the art bereavement group, Shelby's now done w/horseback riding, Shane's done w/wrestling, I am still the PTA secretary and on the site council at the kid's school. My house is surrounded with boxes and tubs and containers and I am so excited the movers are coming on Friday...but then I get the gigantic job of unpacking EVERYTHING plus doing all the normal plus next week the kids have parent/teacher conferences, their art bereavement group, the PTA is next week, the kids have an extra event at church and a friend wants our daughters to go to the Jonas Brothers 3D movie...yeah...no rest on the horizon. Anyways, that's my update. I'm off to do my bible study for the night.

Wow! You guys have been thru so much in the past 2 months!!

Does Shelby have Medicaid? If so, they should cover the Goodnights. Jenna has it and we get diapers for her seeing she is 4. It does help out. Funny thing is, here in NY Medicaid will not pay for a potty chair but will pay how much money for daily diaper wear. Doesn't make much sense!

Well, I am glad to hear everyone is well. Try to stay in touch!
