Can it be true?!!

We were away from home for 5 weeks. The last two times I've done this, I have gained 30# each time...and then spent the whole darn spring/summer losing it again! Ridiculous! This time I took my scale with me, along with my new SP skills and my 23# lighter body and tried again. After returning home via 1,000+ miles of restaurants and sitting in the car 8-13 hours/day, I knew better than to weigh in. Bad news from the scale opens the door to a "pity party" featuring chocolate refreshments for the guest of honor (me!).

After two days back on the wagon and slurping up gallons of water, I crept up on the scale in the dark of night and..... (drum roll, please) up 3# from my departure weight. I cannot tell you how thrilled I was!

I spent the next week visiting my 92 yr old dad (who has no cooking facilities) and eating out daily (again). Tucked in my purse was my SP list of "best choices while dining out." Before Dad awakened every day, I hit the exercise room at his assisted living facility and burned off some calories and some anxiety concerning his increasing health issues. After speeding past the final Dairy Queen within 100 miles of my home, I weighed in --- down 1#. Seriously!

I can do what I've been unable to do before...make better choices in eating out and eating at home and stay active.

I confess to eating several chocolate Easter bunnies in CA. But I made a deal with myself. The bunnies I wanted were only available in one store which was 10 blocks away. I could have one, but I had to walk to get it and walk back home.....FAST and no stopping!!! At least it reduced the caloric damage and strengthened my bone mass!

I snowshoed for 1.5 hr yesterday and will again tomorrow. If the trip didn't sabotage me, there's no valid reason to stop now. Onward! emoticon

    emoticon emoticon FANTASTIC!! It is so hard to stay on track when you're traveling. I have another trip this weekend. I can do this, too!! I can come home "lighter." Thank you for inspiring me and reminding me--I've got the tools and I can take them with me wherever I go.

    I am impressed that you traveled and were a caregiver and only gained 3#. Way to go! When I went to my parents in CA in March I gained the same amount. I walked/jogged everyday and knew how to make good choices. Which exactly is what you did too. You should be proud of your efforts as they paid off. emoticon
