Hit a bear--rier! (barrier...as in

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Well, this black bear (see photo in photo gallery) and his cinammon-colored bear cousin have been on both our decks, clawed & destroyed our screen door & munched grass 20' from my house. A total of 4 visits. So I'm a little leary about heading up the mtn. They've always been here..but I just haven't seen them nor have they been ON the decks and nearly eating at the table with us. And I injured my back trying to load my bike into a new vehicle...so I'm kinda grounded. Today we had 6 deer, a fox, a red-tailed hawk, marmots and chipmunks in the yard and finally green grass and baby aspen leaves. Spring is here...and that means the bears have awakened. Hmmmmm...gotta put my little jingle bells on my shoes so I don't startle them while hiking. Hope I don't run into the mountain lion, too.

OMG you live in some kind of wilderness. I can't believe how beautiful and scenic your home is. And to have nature right there outside your door must be awesome. Of course the close encounter with bears is a little scary so be careful before heading out on the trail.

I live in Toronto which is a big city and the closest I get to wilderness is the park near my gym or one week at the cottage. I envy you all that beauty and tranquility (sans bear of course) but I'm a city girl at heart.

Give my regards to the bear and thanks for the encouragement on the working out.... I'm going to be doing lots of it over the next 16 weeks training for the 1/2 marathon.
