Every time I turn around...

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Since I have been diagnosed with breast cancer, it seems like every time I turn around, someone I know (or know of) is being diagnosed with some form of cancer! First, it was a colleague (about a month after me -- also breast cancer). Then, it was my aunt -- the aunt who has been going to all of my doctor's appointments with me (liver cancer -- they got it all with surgery, thank goodness!). Now, I open up my Google Alerts and find out that the lead singer of one of my favorite bands, Depeche Mode, has had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his bladder! ***Yes, folks, I do like bands other than Duran Duran!*** Good googly moogly, y'all! What on earth is going on???

I hope they have caught your cancer early, my brothers 8 year old daughter has blood cancer and is now totally bald. The good thing is research has come along way, so many more people survive it. I know others whom get diagnosed and are dead a month later, however the chinese should be praised for their research as are getting good results with alternative treatments for people whom have other wise been convicted to death and considered not treatable. In denmark if there is a small lump many women have day surgery and are home again same day, others have breasts removed and breast reconstruction free on the danish health system.. We pay alot of tax (60% of our wages), but appreciate free medical care specially when serious illness turns up.. Good luck and keep positive, being positive can also help recovery hugs Rena..

Yes, I know what you mean. My mom is a cancer survivor and at first, she lived in silence, for a long time, because she was sad and scared and thought nobody was available for her to talk to. But like you, she learned of others who were in it too and that seemed to help her cope a little better.

On one had, it always saddens me to learn of anyone’s sickness. But on the other hand, I think it can serve as a source of comfort in knowing that someone else is going through what you are going through. No matter what we face, for some reasons we always put ourselves in a box isolating ourselves without realizing that many others are facing the same things and people really do know what we’re going through. It can make things a little more bearable when you know you aren’t in something alone.

Depeche Mode huh? I have enjoyed music of Duran Duran, but I never was much of a Depeche. I’ll have to give them a try.

    Have a great day.
