Training Run # 13/No more running!

Well, last Saturday I made the mistake of running and it has cost me. I am not prohibited from doing any type of cardio for a week and no running for two weeks per the instructions of my chiropractor. I'm lucky because it is only a 1st degree strain, no tearing or displacement of the achilles. So with rest and ice and a little patience, I should be fine in two weeks. This also means no 5K until July.

The problem is I can't do anything that burns off any amount of calories until late next week. I love to weight train and pilates is fun but the amount of calories I burn is not nearly enough for me. I don't feel as if I'm exercising, which got me in this predicament in the first place. Too much cardio, training for the run and then doing Turbo Jam or something else right after or the very next day. My body could not take it and here I am, itching to pop in a Cathe Friedrich DVD that involves a step or some killer kick box moves. Help!!!!!!!!! But I've learned my lesson, granted the hard way. I am now a true believer of cross training. I might even incorporate some yoga (say it isn't so).

    I feel the same way when I don't do enough cardio, but you'll never believe the amazing rewards you get from Yoga!!!

    I'm sorry to hear about your injury, but take care of it & listen to the DR, otherwise it will get worse. I know what you mean about feeling you didn't do enough. I enjoy strength & cardio, but I feel like you do. You just have to rest so it feels better. Yoga is good & pilates for the core is great. I lost an inch /w/ pilates Crunchless Core workout in a month /w/ Swimsuit Challenge, on my waist.
    Tai Chi is good also. It's slow moving but you feel the burn. I got these exercises from Self mag/video /on line
    I hope you feel better soon. 2 weeks passes by fast. Just look, it's June already.

    I just ordered the yoga cards they suggested here on spark. I have never done yoga but liked the idea of the different poses. Also you can try the punching moves and that will help with the cardio without using your legs. I am sorry to hear about this. Iknow how much it means to you. Plese take care of yourself and give it time to heal.

    I agree---go for the Yoga. But do Hatha Yoga. Get into the stretches and breathing and relaxation--it is amazing.

    yoga is awesome.....

    you should try it!

    a great beginner video is Patricia Walden's Yoga for Beginners or Yoga for Beginners II

    despite being titled Yoga for Beginners II it doesn't require any previous yoga experience.. it is just her second beginner program slightly different than the first.

    should help with your running too when you get back to it!
