The good news and the bad news..

Saturday, June 13, 2009

DH and I walked 5k today to raise $$ for Habitat for Humanity. I was psyched & planned to meet my week's quota for burned calories. We saw a favorite friend, 79 yr. old Al, with his hiking sticks trudging along with 200 walkers whizzing by him. His lame knees have robbed him of his joy of hiking 14 miles in a day going up 10,000' high mountains. We were the last 3 to finish the walk and it took us 2 hours. I burned very few calories, but had a memorable visit with Al. An excellent choice.

As I climbed on the shuttle bus, there was only 1 seat left next to a man. Before SP...it would have been humiliating. I'd have been lucky to squeeze in...and my thighs and shoulders would bump against him. Today...I fit easily in the small space and my body didn't come anywhere near touching "his space".
That's a first!

The bad news: I only had a couple of "swigs" of water on the 2 hour hike, no fruits or veggies all day and 1/2 waffle for lunch. (cheapest thing on the menu!) When I got home, I was light-headed, crazy for sweets -- even craved and drank a soda (which was a addiction before SP). I guess it's really good news: I learned that my new SP habits keep me feeling good, energized and functioning. And after a few extra hours of sleep tonight, I'm climbing out from under the wagon and climbing back ON it! Lesson learned.

Hey girl! How nice it was that you hike and provided companionship to someone. Not good you forgot to care for yourself. It sounds like you had low blood sugar and were dehydrated when you returned home.
I can understand your frustration today when your plans were derailed. Mine were too today.
I had planned a 30 mile bike ride when it cooled down. Then as hubby drove me toward my planned ride we could see the bad thunderstorm coming in. So, he decided I couldn't ride. I kept thinking about the chocolate chip cookie dough I ate before the expected bike ride. Then I was regreting eating it. He took me to Wal-mart and I shopped. Then we came home and I cooked him dinner and then worked in the garden.
So, we both will go to sleep and start over again tomorrow. We can't stay under the wagon forever.
    Blessings,
