Right on!!

My 'weigh' day is usually Saturday morning. But this past Saturday was not so good as I had gained one fourth of a pound. Let me tell you why that bummed me out so. Last Thursday morning I took my granddaughter to the movies. (Horton Hears a Who~~~very cute) and I didn't have any popcorn even though I have a bucket here at home that would have gotten me a free bucket and I LOVE movie theater popcorn. Instead I had a diet drink and smelled everyone else's popcorn. When I saw that I had gained a quarter of a pound it proved my long stated thought~~~~I can gain weight if I so much as SMELL food!! Then on Friday night after my granddaughter's dance recital, nine of us went out to eat. Once again I was very good. I watched others eating bacon and eggs, hash browns, hamburgers, ice cream fudge sundaes, etc... And I had two pieces of toast, no butter and just a tad bit of jelly and a couple cups of coffee. Again, just seeing and smelling the food made the pounds hop onto me. Now I ask you, is that fair?? And last week (before the little gain) I had made it to the Ten Pound loss list. And I sure didn't want to get demoted!! So I decided to weigh again this morning and low and behold, I had lost two pounds. Now I know that most of that was from last week and apparently I was retaining a quarter pound of water. So when Saturday rolls around I really won't expect too much. But at least for today, I am happy.

    I can relate to this blog! Calories are like fleas - they just jump on me with no mercy! If I ate everything I wanted, everything I craved, everything I'd like to cook but don't, and everything that other people eat, I'd be 500 pounds and flat in bed unable to move. But, I'm restraining myself with portion control, flat out not eating trigger foods like potato chips, cookies, potatoes with sour cream, pastries, and bread, and exercising regularly. I let this weight creep up on me year after year, and now I'm bound and determined to get healthy. It is not easy but my self discipline has a goal to reach.

    I think your goals are paramount in your mind and that helps you every day, Arlene. Keeping busy and focused will contribute to your success. Keep looking up to the day you will reach your lifetime weight and start maintaining. I think it will all be worth it and we'll be proud of our struggle to get there. We're on our way, right?     I have that "can smell food and gain weight" problem too. Way to go on the 2-pound loss! It seems so unfair to be around people that can eat what they want, and I feel like I have to deprive myself. Just keep on keeping on. I think once I get my RSG it will make things easier. Like you said, the portion control will be easier, and the recipe possibilities seem endless. If you hear a big "woo-hoo" you know my RSG got here, and I will know the same for you emoticon Keep up the good work! I'm proud of you.
