My SP ship almost shipwrecked!

Monday, July 20, 2009

A total disaster. Another Titanic. All in a period of ten days......
First, we're semi-retired, self-employed folks and we gave up all but one client "to enjoy life" because my dh has serious health issues. Last week our sole remaining client emailed and said, "Everything's biting the dust. Stop all work until 2010; maybe we can resume work then. Sorry, Charlie(my dh)" Yikes! What about our ungodly monthly health insurance premium???!!

Then there was my birthday..a milestone age that has a "0" at the end. The kind that motivated me last year to join SP to protect my health, regain my energy, and hopefully avoid my deceased mother's series of illnesses.

And then the wonderful "get-way" to celebrate my birthday...and two 23-mile long bike rides in two days. Surely, I deserved at least one DQ for my "significant" birthday! (OK, it was 2 DQs ... and some Mexican food {it was the closest eatery by the bike path} and popcorn w/ the movie...details, details! Picky, picky.).

Then there were the two days of non-stop baking for a very worthy cause.
And since the instructions failed to include modificatons for baking at almost 9,000 feet in elevation...it was my DUTY to taste my variations to be sure they were safe for public consumption. I'm a responsible woman, don'tcha know?!

Exhausted from running two consecutive bake sales, I sat in my recliner (which I long ago rejected in favor of my bike, snowshoes & treadmill) and ate cookies. I ate them faster than I could multiply the calories without a calculator. And I got dizzy, felt ill, fell into a stupor-type nap and wasted a beautiful day.

Have you ever heard such a miserable list of excuses in your life? (me neither!)

But miracles still happen. Today I awakened recharged, remotivated and aware that eating the exact same foods for 9 months isn't working. "Waiting" for decent weather (or my dh or the right mood) or getting my chores done before getting on the bike, etc. doesn't work either. So I implemented a new menu, my bike ride which was aborted by a windstorm transformed into an hour of jogging/walking on the treadmill and my "snacks" while reading a mystery were....carrots! Not crackers.

All because of SP and my SP pals. Historically a week like this resulted in a gradual gain of 30 pounds. That was early 2008 BSP (Before SP). This is 2009 ASP (After SP). And I am so grateful to you for your support (and occasion beatings with a wet noodle.) Have a terrific day and watch out for icebergs(and lousy excuses)!

OMG - I'm not alone! You're a much better Sparker than I. My ship ran aground for a couple of weeks. I've about worked it back into safer waters. I love your sense of humor. So glad I know you.

Well, what do you know you are human! You had a small stumble along the path, but you're back on track now. The secret that we never acknowledge BSP is that one slip doesn't cancel out all the good things we've done in the past. Really you've found the answer that we all need to live by.... get over it.. forget about it... move on.

    Good for you!

And don't worry about the finances... those things will work out fine... your health (and your DH's) is what's most important!

Thanks for always teaching me something!

OMG, BSP and ASP is sooooo funny! Mind if I borrow it? : ) I had a cookie dough day a couple weeks ago kind like that. The important thing is to get back to healthy afterwards and then it won't matter one bit!

You rock. What a great blog. I love how you recognize the excuses for the icebergs they really are and then be done with them. And how you celebrate the patterns that enhance your life: ASP patterns and reject those BSP which are NOT your normal routine. WooHoo. You remain one of my inspirations.

We all need a sanity break now and again. I'm not saying that everytime there is a crisis in our world we should run to the cookie jar - but sometimes ... maybe it's not such a bad idea.

Now you can start fresh today with your new attitude and new plan in place!! You can do it!!

I've got my fingers crossed and emails flying to our congress men & women to change our health care system. Having good health care shouldn't be this hard or expensive.... there just has to be a better way.

Remember to never, ever, ever give up!
