Too Much Water!

On tuesday, feeling guilty because my water drinkage had been a bit pathetic the day before (like 6 or 7 glasses), I guzzled water all day.
I ended up drinking 7-8 20oz bottles of water. Which is between 17.5 - 20 glasses of water.
That night when I was making dinner, I started to have heart palpitations. I noticed it particulary when I would bend to get something out of the refridgerator.
The next day when I woke up, I was still experiencing them. As I started to try and think what could have brought them on, I started to remember a story I had once read on the dangers of drinking too much water.
I did some research online, and found that drinking too much water can dilute your blood and mess with your electrolytes (primarily sodium and potassium). I wasn't worried about sodium because I have twice as much as I am supposed to, but I was a bit worried about the potassium.
When I did some research on low potassium, sure enough, one of the symptoms is heart palpatations.
I had already drunk 4 glasses of water that morning, but at that point, I stopped and switched to diet v8 splash, which had a small amount of potassium in it.
I sipped that all day, though the palpatations continued all day (though they were not continuous).
That night for dinner, I made a high potassium meal: potato, spinach salad and for desert a fruit smoothy.
When I woke up the next morning, the palpitations were gone.
Water Intoxication as it is called can be dangerous, and even fatal. Many of the symptoms are similar to dehydration; fatigue, dizziness, headache. (and additionally there is the heart palpitations).
If you are going to drink that much water make sure that you are getting enough sodium and potassium and watch for the symptoms.
