RAIN~

Rain - nourishing, without all life would perish....tears...the heavens open shedding tears.

Two days ago I was meeting a client. Unbeknownst to me that same day homage was being paid to young man; a man who not only served his country, he sacrificed his life for the country he loved while serving with pride. Lt Helton was coming home one final time. How I missed knowing this I do not know I only know Divine Intervention brought me out in the rain to meet my client. While driving I heard on the radio that Lt Helton was being brought to his home town.

It begin to make sense. The police on every corner, the hundreds of people standing in the rain with their umbrellas quietly waiting. The large and mighty fire engines in the middle of the street...all lights going on all service vehicles...some police only standing quietly. I started trembling with emotion as I saw the power company trucks, their ladders raised to the heavens crossing each other with a flag hanging down the center....and the people...braving the rain to pay their last respects, saying their final goodbye.

I called my client explaining our point of destination would no longer be acceptable, we chose to meet further out of town. As I proceeded down the highway I continued to see more standing...the rain was coming down steadily by then. I was speaking with my client when I saw the lights and told him I had to hang up I was becoming too emotional. Pulling over to the side of the road as did others the motorcade approached.

It was sombre, it was reality, it was painful. The sorrow I felt was so deep so unbelievably deep....I cried, I gripped the steering wheel watching the police officers on motorcycles followed by the Vets on their motorcycles then more police followed finally by Lt Helton with more police cars, state patrol cars, officers from surrounding counties bringing up the rear. Sobbing as I continued to watch through the rain drenched window was the only homage I could pay to this brave man and his family; knowing he is not alone that there are so many more that have sacrificed their lives and knowing sadly more will follow.

My thoughts were of a brother, a husband, a son...Lt Helton brought it all so close to home, the dignity and respect our small town was showing our fallen hero. The rain continued to fall...harder matching my tears of anguish. The heavens opened and cried with us all...her tears nourishing our earth in her sadness.

Today I had a meeting to attend. As I approached the center of town the streets were clear and blocked off as a final salute and farewell for Lt Helton was traveling to his final resting place in a National Cemetery in N GA.

The rains have not stopped, they continue with monumental downpours...so appropriate for the mourning of innocence. I cannot shake this uncontrollable sadness that has overwhelmed me...without a second thought, it is natural to always say thank you to any Vet, or any family member for that matter for their service or their children's service for without them our freedom would be compromised...Lt Helton brought reality home and when he did the heavens cried.

Rest in peace while finding comfort in God's loving arms.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute to our fallen heroes. As I watch the rains pour out my window and the tears streaming from my eyes from reading this I am humbled and thankful all the more for their sacrifice and that of their families and am reminded to pray for those who are still serving so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have.
