Yesterday hubby and I went for a first ever hike. We didn't really know what it would be like. Son does a lot of hiking at half dome, yellowstone, and did a 2 day 35 mile hike last year - he could hardly walk when we picked him up and he had trained before. He has asked dh to go with him and I do not think he would be ready for a whole day 6ooo ft elevation hike.

So we decided to venture out and see how we would fare - our highest elevation was just under 2000 ft elevation. We started out and didn't know if we'd make it up steps and pretty steep starting out. It got a little easier - we've had so much rain it was a bit muddy in spots but were able to dodge it usually. We had trails up with beautiful views of the city of San Jose and the green mountain range just across the way.

If you can look at the road about in the middle of the pic - our car is there - showing how far up we had gone so far - the views were spectacular even though a bit foggy over the city.

We went up and then started our decent down about 10 switchbacks down to where 2 streams met and we took a little lunch break. We did so much zig zagging back and forth down to the bottom. Some paths were very narrow and some wide. We could hear the rushing of the waterall along the hike but could not see it - but when we finally got down to it - it was worth it.

We finished by walking along the stream at the bottom - it was a nice first time hike. We will go back and do the rest of the trails - we started in the middle and went up on the south rim. There were other trails that led to where we started. We talked about doing another trail before we left but decided it was too late in the afternoon.

The nice thing about this is that it is only about 8 miles from our house. We look up to the foothills of Mt Diablo - and now we saw it from another view.

It was a good day and we had a good workout - felt the burn in the hips, calves, and ankles and were breathing a little heavy at times going but felt good - Oh yeah and we slept reallllly good that night! emoticon
